    AMD: ATi Radeon HD 5830 better than GeForce GTX 460

    According to news publlished by donanimhaber.com, AMD claims that ATi Radeon HD 5830 still better than GeForce GTX 460.

    AMD underlines that;

    · Huge processing power for gaming and ATI Stream applications

    · ATI Eyefinity technology with support for up to 6 displays (depending on card and configuration) from a single card

    · 7.1 HBR audio for Blu-Ray bit streaming of DTS Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD

    And also they say;

    Specifically, the GTX 460 with 768MB frame buffer goes head to head with our ATI Radeon HD 5830, a product that for a similar price delivers a larger frame buffer (very important both for today’s games and even richer, more detailed DirectX 11 games to come).

    Last but not least, because of our lead in delivering DirectX 11 graphics hardware to market, the majority of DX 11 game developers are using ATI Radeon HD 5000 Series hardware, and the vast majority of DX 11 gamers are experiencing the latest titles on our ATI Radeon HD 5000 Series products.

    Because the HD 5830 will give a playable frame rate at any 3D game spanning 6 displays... :P

    Having a bigger framebuffer is now somehow better than having a higher framerate. Got it.

    Now, I'd take the 460 over 5770/5830 anyday. The 5830 never really sold the way a midrange card should have...

    AMD is just trying to get more 5830 sales.

    The reason for that was purely on NVIDIA's side. Why lower the prices if competition doesn't have anything to offer?
    In fact, the cards prices went up because NVIDIA had nothing to offer. When HD5850 hit the street, it was around 200 EUR. When i bought it a bit after release, the cheapest i could find was 230 EUR (well, at least it was and OC Edition from MSI). Most of them were selling for 300 EUR! or even more. I'd say that HD5850 will become cheaper now. To be honest, it was about freakin time NVIDIA released something at least half decent.

    I really don't know what to say. I thought they had room for price drops, so why would they do something stupid like this?

    I think what is troubling about this is AMD's arrogance. Basically they are saying their cards are better and thus do not require a pricedrop in the forseeable future because they don't see the gtx 460 as a threat. The only way to change AMD's mind is honestly for people to buy gtx 460's. Which even the fanboys should be able to see.

    People being purely objective should see the gtx 460 as superior to the 5830. Performance-wise it is not superior to the 5850, but until the 5850 comes down to 259, the gtx 460 will remain the better value.

    Yes.

    Dont get me wrong, but I've got a 4850, 4870X2, and two 5770's here along with an oldie. A Rage 128 Pro.

    But it's easy to see the GTX460 being a winner. I've got an 8800GTS 320MB in a landfill somewhere. ***tty VRMs...cooler failed. 140c FTW

    Hrm, didn't expect AMD's PR to drink from the Nvidia kool-aid.

    AMD just needs to cut the 5830 price to $195 and the 5850 to $239. Slashing the price of the 5870 back to its original $299 price will also help, as SLI GTX 460's look pretty damn fast.

    AMD has always been quicker to a mature process and crossover point, so by the time intel gets their issues and volume sorted out, AMD won't be very far behind at all.

    Well did anyone really expect AMD to say "Hey, great job Nvidia! Your GTX460 is better than our 5830, we'll drop our prices to be competitive"? The prices will surely drop just as the prices on GTX200-series dropped after RV770 was released (although this time it won't be that significant). Besides, if AMD is supposed to release new cards this fall they should've been dropping prices to make room for them too.

    Of course not, but they could have kept their mouths shut, drop the prices and move on. Instead they've become a laughing stock.

    Looking at the link in the OP, I don't see where this source comes from.
