5850 Tri-Fire rapes 5870 CF, I know because I have 5850 Tri and have benched many games against friends 5870 CF systems. Basically 5870 Tri-Fire minus 10% and you are around 5850 Tri speeds..

Secondly, the cooler master 850w probably wont cut it. I had a Thermaltake 850w and while I could play games ok, if I turned up the eye candy to say 24xEDAA+SSAA in Crysis or Stalker CoP I would hear the PSU ticking under stress then BSOD. Changed PSU and havnt had a problem since.

the thermaltake had 4 x 12v rails (2 @ 30A and 2 @ 18A) so depending on the 12v rails on that cooler master PSU I dont think it will handle extreme loads.

    Also you have a P55, I am using X58 which is 16x+8x+8x, I think P55 will only run 8x+8x+4x??

will it be better to cf x5870 then have an 8800gt for physx or is it pointless having a physx card

Ah yes I thought X58 is 16+16+8 but wasnt sure so just typed 16+8+8..

and that mobo is ok, I have the X58A-UD3R and it oc's well and runs CFX great.

In that case I say go for 5850 Tri-Fire, it will be a lot faster and you will get more use out it than 5870CF + 8800. Or, you could just get 5870 CF and use the 8800 for now and then get another 5870 later down the track when they are cheaper, just be prepaired for possibly needing another PSU at that time.

I'd recommend antec 1200w quattro, I just bought one myself, it has 6 x 12v rails @ 38A each, plenty for 5870 Tri and a few upgrades to come

I'd go with the 5850's in Trifire, but, how are you using a P55 board with a 1366 cpu? lol
    AMD FX 8350 @ 4.4Ghz
    Corsair H60
    Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+
    8GB Mushkin Blackline @ 1800Mhz
    Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 3GB
    Crucial C300 SSD - Bootdrive
    2 x 640GB Samsung - 1.2TB RAID 0
    800GB Western Digital Green SATAII
    Corsair TX 750
