Theres no point in switching between 1.1 and 2.0 for desktops in the slightest.. might be time for NV to keep their mobile chips seperate from their desktop chips now.

Sigh, I'm getting mixed messages. Im about to sell my GTX 275 for 120$ and getting two GTX 460's instead. And now it just doesn't seem worth it(320$ total), damned be the hardware market lately.

ovard - why not add an ebay gtx275 and run sli? I've not been impressed enough yet to swap from gtx260 sli. I so wanted fermi to blow me away but gt200 is still competitive due to price/performance.

ebay is VERY hard for swedes, sadly since shipping kills. I will however look around for a few days. Thanks for the advice!

Hey all!! I'm also hyped about this new little card! I just bought the GTX 460 Sonic Platinum of palit!! Any suggestions on how to pimp it? I'm coming from a trusty ATI 4850 so don't have much experience with NVIDIA. Any suggestions are welcome!! Is it possible to raise slightly voltage on the 460 without modding the pcb? Through software? What tools should I install in order to have total control over the card and get the fan to work to 100%?

Use MSI Afterburner last version(ony last version works). Raise the Gpu voltage to 1.06v . I think you would do 880-900/1760-1800/4400(1100) (core/shaders/memory) with this.Watch the themperatures.

Yes, last version of Msi Afterburn supports core(GPU) voltage adjustment for GTX 460 up to 1.1v . Use 1.06v you shoul reach 900Mhz core as i said earlier.
Then check if is stable with Msi Kombustor 10 minutes, and play some games continous 20-30minutes, If you don't se artefacts or it doesn't crash than it's good.

You can safely run around 1.15v on the GTX460. Higher than that generally isn't advisable not because the GPU isn't comfortable with it, but the VRMs will get toasty.

Yesterday I got my Palit Sonic Platinum and i'm blown away by this cute little card!!! It's seriously smaller compared to my old 4850, and it's incredibly fast! I used msi afterburner to set voltage at 1.05 and boom! gpu 920mhz rams 4400mhz...it rocks! I didnt' bench, I just used kombustor for 30 mins it was fine, and about 9 hours of starcraft2 all maxed out at 1920*1200 it never drops below 60fps! AMAZING CARD palit! I wish they had added heatsinks on the voltage regulators, luckily I have some from my old card I'll just attach them to the new, though I have 2 questions

1)anyone has a link to which are the voltage regulators? (just to confirm because there are two sets of small chips and I don't know if it's all of them, excuse the ignorance)

2)what method do you guys use to attach heatsinks on the chips?

    ON is the voltage controller

You have three holes for screws or push and pin sistem i think, see is they are protected with a little rubber, but may be they don't fit with your heatsink. You can use also some glue that remanins a little sticky, be carefuly don't use a glue which paste forever the heatsink to VRM.
Anyway Palit advertised that VRM have not any problem without heatsink, and also reference Nvidia is without any heatsink.

if one goes for SLI, is it better to pick two GTX 460 of the same manufacturer, or it doesn't matter? for example I have a palit, and from what I know gainward is palit's?? If I got the gainward goes like hell 460 which is clocked the same as my sonic platinum would it work ok?

Only thing different I know of with those cards is the vendor ID string. Just change the vendor ID string to match if you get problems. To edit the vendor ID string you will need a BIOS editor. THIS will get you pointed in the right direction.

920MHz on the GPU is a fine OC indeed. With 1.087v the GTX460 I have manages 850, but no more. Might be a vBIOS related issue. Will try other vBIOSes when the proper editing tools are available.

I'm actually going to end up returning these for a pair of MSI GTX 470's... found a really good deal on newegg for a pair, and at 2560x1600 with 8x AA I think I'll see definite advantages in SLI GTX 470's vs. the 1GB 460's. They're extremely solid cards no doubt, but for a ~$50 difference for both cards total (and less if I can sell the bundled games, if not even free/better price to switch) I should end up better off. I'll compare a few SLI scores I had from the 460 1GB's to the SLI 470's once they arrive tomorrow. 3dmark showed around a 5% difference for a single card oc-to-oc, but that runs at 1920x1200... my normal games at 2560x1600 seem a bit bigger a spread.

Pricing for the 2x 1GB GTX 460's was $470/pair for me... the GTX 470's will be $496 for the pair, but they have a $20 rebate (which may work on both, to become 40), 2x copies of Metro 2033 PC digital downloads I can ebay (~$30 ebay value, so maybe 25 after fees each), and 2x code for choice of Street Fighter 4 PC *or* Resident Evil 5 PC (I don't own RE5 so I'll use one of those for it, then ebay the other). If everything works ideally I'll end up at 496 - 50 - 40 - 15 = $391 with using one of the RE5 codes.

I'll post some numbers tomorrow . Newegg let me return with no restock fee when I explained the situation and what I wanted to swap to... . I guess a bit of a perk since I order so much with them .
