I'm sure you can go further with a GPU voltage bump knock it up to 1.05 - 1.1v

For folding@home it won't work but i'm trying for Vantage now Ket: core 870 mem 1060 max voltage 1.075. Gonna try 900.

Hey Ket, i tried 900 then 890 they didn't work but 880 did. And for the unlocked bios, as i've mentioned somewhere before i'm not going to flash unless i have the editor myself so i can check everything.

You are stuck at exactly the same point my GPU is. it does 880 @ 1.1v (didn't tweak voltage, probably stable with a bit lower) but beyond that nothing is stable. Its probably down to the fusking IHS slapped over the GPU die, remove that and I'm willing to bet 90%+ of GTX460s can hit 900MHz+ core with 1.1v.

It went a little higher but thats it core 885 and the memory a little higher but the 20k just didn't break.

Stormad, are you using the stock cooling for the card?

I'm thinking of buying a 460 and wondering if 900Mhz would be more likely with water.

You don't need water for 900. I'm yet to see a single GTX460 that doesn't hit at least around 830MHz on the GPU with stock voltage, a small BIOS edit or software OC voltage tweak to about 1.1v sees a lot of people very close to 900Mhz, generally around 875-890. This is all on the stock fan and temps are not a issue. What will see you to 900 and beyond is to remove the GPU IHS so with a little cooler modding the GPU die can make direct contact with the HS base.

In case you are a little confused, allow me to explain. While the GTX460s don't suffer from heat problems the point in removing the GPU IHS is to remove the "sandwitch" effect. ie; GPU die>TIM>IHS>TIM>HS base.

@Adpr 02, yes this is on the stock Gigabyte heatsink, i did reapply the thermal paste, with fan set at max 70% and max voltage: 1.087V. But this is only for benchmarking. For folding the max stable is 830 and for gaming i usually use 800 on the core!

hm.... and can you add more than 1.1V if necessary through? Does MSI afterburner work, and if so to what voltage? I usually reach pretty high OCs with my cards.

No, without flashing to a modded bios by Gaul or Ket you can't get the voltage any higher than 1.087V. I've got another question though when i first installed the card i saw the card clocking back to the performance level 0 = 50 Mhz on the core and now it never goes this low anymore. Is this maybe because i use the bèta driver 259.09 or something else? I already unplugged my second monitor. And another note they added this stupid fat mini HDMI to HDMI connector but with my case(Cosmos S) it won't fit because its stuck against the case. And another note for the guys with 2 ati HD 4850 in crossfire, this card isn't an upgrade because the crossfire is still just a little bit better. ( I had this setup before)

hmm, most 460s get stuck at around 900, ket u seen the msi hawx or hawk 460? hitting 1ghz with ease.. Should hit the 20k mark pretty easy..

Ket,this is in 2D mode, zero load.

Even at zero load it takes the card maybe a minute to switch power states. Just leave nVidia Inspector open and soon enough it will cycle down to 50MHz. If it doesn't, you deffinately have something in the background giving the GPU something to do.
