if they can OC so well, why not sell them at 750mhz stock? i hope power consumption isnt an issue still, thats the only reason i can see them being worried about higher clocks. or they are being nice and trying to push out alot of these cards knowing they OC well, to hopefully get back some market share.

This looks good, and the OC headroom is impressive. It would be interesting to see some tests on 1GB/256-bit too.

Not impressed. The quest for the overclocked part is a fallacy, gaurnteed clocks are what matter here not potential. For all we know that could be a center cut best bet card or it could be the overall average; at this point we dont know. There have been a number of these cards floating around that people buy for the sake of overclocking only to have the rug pulled out from beneath them.
The HD5850 was hot until we couldn't adjust voltage, same thing with the GTX470. Once the non-ref PCBs hit this card will be a dud just like the other 2 before it.
Even still, going based of what they said a 900mhz 460 @ 192bit only just matched a 600mhz GTX 470. Lets not forget that the 470 with volts does 700-800+ which will wipe the floor with the aftermentioned card.
The only thing I see coming out of this is a price drop on the ATi cards and nothing more. The 460 is an interesting card but I fail to see how its a game changer.
Now if this was the GT212 totally different story but this card is going up against a GTX470 / HD5850. Why in the world would anyone buy this over either two?

That doesn't look real good honestly. 800Mhz just to pull even with a default clocked GTX470? I can overclock both my GTX470's to 800Mhz and out run a stock GTX480 for $150 less. To me really the only card that makes sense in the Fermi line up is the GTX470. It's the only reasonably priced card for the performance it offers.

GF 104 sounds to be a good surprise. A full one (384 SP, 64 TMU ?) with high clocks could be very interesting, right.
http://translate.google.com.br/trans...t-1026888.html
there will, for U$250
people said the same crap about 8800gt and look how that turned out. some of you guys just have no idea what you're talking about. just watch what happens when there is finally competition in the mainstream performance segment.
PS: 8800gt had two memory sizes for $200-$250, just like this new rumored card.
I love how people complain about a $230 card that can match or get close to GTX470 ($350) performance when overclocked. Obviously if you overclock the GTX470 it will still be faster. It's got more memory, more memory bandwidth, more SPs, and probably more ROPs. What were you expecting, an overclocked GTX460 matching an overclocked GTX470?
Even if the retail cards don't overclock quite as well as this reviewed card, if they can still get close to a GTX470 that's still awesome! And by the way, the GTX480, 470 and 465 all seem to have remained good overclockers even after having been in retail for some time.

Color me jaded but I am going based off of what was said. They said the GF104 would be the next "8800GT". That simply is not true, this is card is more akin to the 9600GT than the 8800GT.
The 8800GT was comparable to the 8800GTX clock for clock; we're not seeing anything close in that regard, this chip in no way has clock parity between it and the GTX480.
Best case scenerio we are talking matching the GTX470 @ stock and possibly the GTX480 stock at a 1/3 clock disparity. That puts this card on par with what the 9600GT did, not the 8800GT.
We are simply commenting on the misleading infomation put out about this card. What we are concerned by is the large gap needed to match an already excellent bang for buck chip for maybe $80 more. Lets be realistic here; the GTX470 is not a $399 card or even a $350 card, every day I look at it there seems to be a constant creep down to $300. Heck compusa was selling evga chips for $329.
As of right now I fail to see why this chip is desirable at its current price point. Now if this were a $200 card? Big difference, but at $250? Thats HD5850 territory there and under no circumstance do I see this being a contender to the 5850 even if it could routinely overclock to 900mhz (which I highly doubt)
Im betting most people overclocking this card are going to see 750-800mhz like most of us are and more than likely at a ~200W range. This card's only saving grace will be its memory clock. If this thing cant get to over 4ghz overclocked there is no way I can see this chip surviving at its price point against a price dropped HD5850.

Yeah, the "next 8800GT" the GTX460 is looking not to be. As was said above the beauty of the 8800GT was that it was very close to 8800GTX performance for $200 less. And FYI the 8800GT launched at $299 not $200. The GTX470 can easily be found for $319 - $329 (even under $300 if you count rebates) and if one were to make a comparison about "today's 8800GT" that would clearly fall on the GTX470 as it can easily reach GTX480 performance for more than $150 less. ON average the GTX480 is selling for $489 - $519 depending on where you buy it. So those that are wanting the "champagne" taste but can only afford the "beer" price level will obviously opt for the GTX470.

This card is obviously targeted at the 5830, basically 465 performance from a product with a cheaper BOM hence cheaper sale price.
Why anyone would complain about more affordable mainstream options coming to market is beyond me.

8800GT was based on G92, which was 65nm... (vs G80, 90nm)
GF104 is not a die shrink, its shaping up to be a reenginered GF100 (at 40nm) with less GPGPU resources to adress the mainstream-performance segment...
i think everyone has their expectations way too high. we can expect higher clocks and better power consumption, but we should not be expecting this to be a jump like 65-40nm was.
for the price, thats still a let down. whats the point being only 10% cheaper, when by now all 40nm cards should have dropped by 40-50%
Ah great, another 8800GT effect buzz. Quite frankly I couldn't care less what Nvidia pushes out at this point. The more cards the better. I wouldn't BUY any of them, but I'd like to see more on the market. We need ATI to lower the price and release Southern Island a little sooner.
