Sorry for your difficulties, but thanks for the heads up. I was looking for an ATI card (since BFG doesn't make em) and XFX is now off the list. Last thing I need is a company that looks for reasons to deny warranty. IMHO - their reasoning was insufficient.
dont forget biostar they just started in mass but they only have reference 5850/5870 (or did last week, i havnt looked again) and they are priced cheap since they are not well known in the market.
on topic, if they offered to take me to the factory or rma center i would go for it, sure its just a pr joke but it could open doors for employment and i would be that they would replace your card, or u got coolant on the card and let it dry and they know it but that dose not seam reasonable but if u got a tampered box it could have happened.

I was about to order another HD5850 for my xfire. Saw the cheapest one from Newegg is XFX. Since I have never dealed with them before, so I came here and see if anything about them. So I went ahead and ordrered the Shappire. Even thought it is more expensive, but I have a good history of RMA with them before. No matter how cheap is the product. If the product support is sux, it's not worth it to spend my money on it.
Good luck with your case man...
Here is something interesting - and if Dell can do it - so can XFX:
"Dell blamed the college for overtaxing the machines, but newly released evidence indicates that the failures were actually caused by faulty electrical components that leaked chemicals."
Kinda sounds like that's the residue they found on your card, under the HS. It could likely be and reasonably sounds like a flaw in materials / workmanship to me.
Link to Dell story: http://www.dailytech.com/Built+to+Fa...ticle18884.htm
its not like xfx makes any of their cards they just order them with their bios, red dvi ports and their sticker. dell is the same, they order there boards, and they get them and put the computers together, sure they knew that the boards were bad and it wasnt shown if they picked those parts or if those parts were the cheapest that made the spec but if selling parts u know are bad gets dell a large fine and some consumer action, that should get the same to NV with every IGP they have made, the low/midrange 8xxx and some 9xxx from the rebadges and the 680/780i boards that were ROHS compliant and the OEMs that sold them as they had a huge failure rate and were sold even though NV, oems and verdors knew that they were all bad. or the power supplies that HP uses that die affter 6 months and burn up emitting chemicals.
sure all of those fit in with that but its not really anything that is new or different, they should have just replaced it if thats the only spot its in, and it was under the heatsink, especially with the plastic tab was still attached from the card to the HS and the crap thermal paste was still there. but they cover removing the heatsink and that is clearly a defect from the factory or liquid cooling coolant.

I had a bad experience with XFX before this for my GTX 285 Black Edition. The card died and I've never did anything to it (everything was stock) but they claim there were burnt marks which I've got no idea what happened. They refused to honour the warranty and after a long argument (for weeks), the local supplier gave me a GTX 280 (used) as a replacement. Totally doesn't make sense and I would avoid this brand at all cost in future.

I wouldn't say XFX cheap out on the components their cards use, my 4830s allow for the highest voltages I've seen from non modded cards (1.258v) and now the cards have a good BIOS on them, they clock well (710/2200) I think they just don't have any warrenty worth more than the paper its printed on.

Stay away from Sapphire, their not too hot either. Go with Powercolor, Asus, Gigabyte, or anyone like that. Had good experiences with all of them.

Sapphire aren't a good company really. Their RMA can be compared to the XFX RMA.

sapphire sucks they wanted to charge me $15 to beable to rma and then they also wanted me the pay shipping, the only companes that ive had good rmas with were ocz, corsair (in person), dfi (in person), and logitech. dfi and corsair replace your item in person u just get an rma number call up and say that u comming and they replace it right there, logitech gave me a g500 to replace my g5 that had a side scroll broken and they did not want the g5 back so i have a spair mouse that has no side scroll but thats not all that useful

BFG Tech has great RMA (the one time that I needed it) .... My 8800GT went bad and they sent me a MaxOC_260GTX as a replacement - lifetime on the cards. Too bad they don't make ATI chipset cards as I'm not putting a nuclear heat generator (470/480) in my rig / office.
So. Any real word on where this has gone??

Hmmm, I was just wondering if I should start buying other cards. I mean, I have 3 registered XFX 5870's ,and 5 out of my last 6 cards have been XFX, but if this what I can expect I will gladly start buying others.
Damn man that sucks, seems like they just didnt care and honestly if these companies were any smart they would tag the screws directly from the shop once put together. If you look at your cars motor, you will see a few screws that have what seems to look like a stripe on the nuts and bolts etc. This is how dealerships can tell wether YOU tampered with an air box , valve cover, the head , some other areas of the engine bay etc . Its just such a shame these companies treat you the way they do while spending hundres if not thousands of dollars with them. Hopefully better luck next time mate!

I'm glad I saw this topic as well, been looking at getting the XFX 6950's. Think I stick with HIS.
