Deus Ex is Ten Years Old

Happy Deus Ex Day! I'll spare you the moaning and groaning about how old this makes me feel. Now get to reminiscing about one of the best games ever (or go play it)!

As good as the original was, I still don't understand how the dev team could be so dense as to not foresee some of the most basic technological advances in even today's world. In DE1 they had 4:3 monitors and TVs in the year 2055 for God's sake! Now you have all these people complaining that Deus Ex 3 looks more futuristic than Desu Ex 1. Well it didn't help that Ion Storm's imaginations were stuck in the stone ages. If it hadn't been for Spector's story, even the original game would have probably been utter crap.

Happy Birthday Deus Ex! I hope DE3 is as good as we've all been waiting for!

IMHO, its easy enough to explain the difference in look/ advancement between the games...... Can pick from any number of social declines or attitudes towards technology. In the 60s and 70s, wasn't science and technology really OMG IN YOUR FACE because "hey! Look what we can do!" Whereas now, we're more interested in things working in the background and blending in.

Look at what happened after The Renaissance... the early 1700s were dominated by war or.... nothing.

Too bad they weren't fast enough to release DE3 by the anniversary!
Well, not a big deal. The trailer looks damn good, hoping for the best!

    Good old times before consolitis.
I'm also looking forward to the new DE3 but I fear it won't have nothing to do with the venerable original DE.

It's the unreal engine; screw with the config files. DeusEx.ini is like the main one. In System in game install dir.

Texture update info (and a DX10 renderer):

DE the first was excellent in it's time. The second, not so much. Looking forward to DE3.

    It was a 24h offer.
However I wouldn't be surprised if DE3 had a Deluxe edition with the original Deus Ex.

I dont think we'll ever see such level of epicness. I've encountered it only twice so far. System Shock 2 a year before and Deus Ex. There were good games indeed, but none of them were epic good like these two.

All FPS titles since this game were dumbed down far too much, just run around and shoot things and a boring or non existant story line.

No wonder i've never been able to enjoy any FPS game since this one.
