    Darth's YDA-Luna Project

It took a while for me to finally place my buildlog here.

First a little background info of how I came to this project.
After reading through the buildlog of Daniel's Murdermod here on XS and discovering MDPC I knew what my next project would be.

    Planned Gear:

    Hardware:
    Custom Build Case
    MB: EVGA Classified SR-2
    CPU: 2x Intel Xeon E5620
RAM: 2x Corsair Dominator GT 12 GB 1866 MHz Cas 9 (kit of 6)
    GPU: 2x Asus Geforce GTX480
    Audio: Asus Xonar D2X
    PSU: 2x Silverstone Stryder 1200
    Bootdrive: 2x OCZ Vertex 2 Extended raid0
    ODD: BD-Rom en DVD-RW
    Storage: 3x 2TB WD Caviar Black, 2x 500GB WD Caviar Black raid0
    Storage Controller: Adaptec AAR-1430SA-SGL

    Cooling:
    2x EK Supreme HF Nickel
    2x EK FC480GTX Nickel
    4x D5 with EK D5 X-top rev2
    4x ThermoChill PA120.4 Quad
    4x EK Multioption Reservoir 150 rev2
    Aqua-Computer Aquaero 4.00 VF Display
    16x Scythe Gentle Typhoon 120mm 1850rpm
2x MIPS RAM COOLER 6 ´Corsair Edition´ Nickel POM Black
    EK/MIPS SR-2 Full Board Block
Indigo Xtreme TIM for the CPU's
    BitsPower Fittings

    Various:
    Custom Power and Reset switch
Custom whatever else comes to mind

Since I already started a buildlog for this project on another forum at the end of April, I could easily fill quite a few pages with pictures of all the gear.
But I will focus on putting updates on the case itself up first and spread out posting the pictures of the gear over the next few weeks.

    So lets get started .

    A 3mm ALU sheet.

One of the 3mm ALU sheets after it was bend.

To assemble the bend ALU sheets I use 10x20mm ALU bars.
After cutting the bars I pack them together so I can cut them all simultaneously under a 17 degree angle. After which some filing is done to remove the saw marks.

Then we continue with some drilling, tapping and more filing.

    Wet Filing

    Testing the Tap.

    Lets assemble it.

Next are the side panels. These were cut quite badly having a 2.5mm difference in width on opposite sides of the sheet.
So those needed to be filed down a lot.

6 or so hours later they were filed down to the correct size.
After which it was yet again time for drilling and tapping.

So far Part 1 of the Case .

A lot more to follow .

This reminds me of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea... cuz it looks like a submarine sort of thing.
Signatures make my posts look huge... but I'm not humble enough to completely remove my signature, so I kept this note explaining it.

Are you building a trash can? JK

Looking forward to seeing what happens with it, keep the updates coming.

Alu, Alu, Alu and ....... Alu :D

I could probably post a Render of the Case to solve the "looks like a" problem.
But that would spoil the log because then you know exactly what it is supposed to look like when finished.

Hopefully watching Part 2 of the Case will help.

    More bend 3mm ALU.

And yet again cutting, filing, drilling and tapping the 10x20 ALU Bar.

Luckily the side panels for this part were correctly cut, saving me a whole lot of filing work.

Part 1 will be the middle part of the case, Part 2 will be the top part.
The bottom part will have to wait a while since I need to order more ALU, after I messed up a sheet for it trying to bend it myself.

I'll post some Gear pictures tomorrow.

    Gear Pictures

The first package I received. I needed more data on these components for my case design so I ordered a small package.

Then it was time for the more serious orders .

    Connector Madness.

And a very nice package from MDPC-X. I ordered this one back in February while I was still working out the design. I'm glad I can finally start using it.

Check back for a lot more later.

I love the reflection of the white gloves so you wouldn't get prints all over your new fittings. Funny.

Did you win the lottery or something? I can't believe this is for ONE system!!! I could build like ten hardcore gaming systems with all those parts. Wow, keep up the good work!
