I was just playing a little with BC2 and with CF enabled i get around 30FPS less than with CF disabled. And that is with the new profiles.

Ok so upon further inspection looks like idle clock is 400mhz instead of ~128mhz. Going to try clean install .. if not then back to 10.5 for me.

Update: After full uninstall and driver sweeper .. idle is back to where it should be (158mhz). So I guess 10.6 is ok for me now.

AMD forums, more AMD forums, more AMD forums, more AMD forums. Google reveals more.

The problem has existed since the OpenGL update (so in 10.5 as well). First thread, more, more, mpre, more. Plus, again, Google.
I'm still not seeing the masses of complaints. Sure there are threads but after looking at them there are only a few with multiple responses.
Be that as it may I went ahead and got into Quake Live and found no problem.

If I am not seeing these issues, I cannot believe I'm the only one.

There are multiple posters seeing the same bug/problem in each linked thread. Noone has insisted that the problems affect all users, but they're affecting a significant proportion - if these posters and posters here are seeing these issues, you can't believe that they're not the only ones

SKYMTL was talking about the Catalyst profile update, which is not yet available on ATi's website.

    I said usually.

Your temps were not maxed out yet and the "fur" style rendering benchmarks are poor at showing these "vector" type errors sometimes.

Also your temps dont look like they were maxed out yet.

They were almost maxed up but still my 5870 had in BFBC2 88c MAX! im usually playing with real temp in background so i know max and min temp. My problem is with drivers cause this textures and flicking screen i can see in 2 maps and rest with ASSAULT only. I have Fresh windows and Fresh game. 10.6 sucks

10.6 + new crossfirex profile + HD5970 = still its rubbish, super low fps BFBC2 compared to older catalyst, Its not really playable now.

I didnt get any vantage improvement going from 10.4 - 10.6, and only did because my drivers were corrupt and producing crappy FPS.

Hence I did go from 30-80 FPS in Lotro to 100-150, and from 30-60 FPS in guildwars back up to 120-150 :p

But thats because my installed drivers messed up.

I had no problems installing, no bsods or anything with a 4870x2. One thing I did notice is there was texture problems with APB KTTC build (33). Some players clothes and bodies did not show up leaving a mouth and eyes walking about lol, was prety funny. Also some players clothes were bright white, this happened on a new install of APB as well. Went back to 10.4a and everything was good again.

these drivers are hilarious, first time I've come across drivers that are capable of bricking your install of windows if you are soo unlucky as to not have .NET completely updated (like say right after a system build). A whole new meaning to black screen of death. Monitor is still on, videocard is still outputting, just showing a black screen. Safe mode, VGA mode, pci back up cards from ati and nvidia, no difference 10.6 bricked my windows install. 10.5's were just peachy so my fault for updating but jeebus. Someone needs to be fired for this at ati driver HQ.

no problems installing 10.6 cats here, they seem quite ok. 4870 512mb, cut down bfbc2 loading times to 15-20 sec max which is sweet, but I am noticing more choppiness now. My guess is they cut down on the shader precalculations to improve map loading times but now the experience isn't as great. It was great being second on a map for once.

PS I think this is my 100th catalyst install without problems. I might as well make it infinite because I have never had problems installing them on countless machines.

I had random freezes in SC Conviction with 10.5., which miraculously
evolved into BSODs now and then with 10.6.

Anyone managed to play this game without issues on CF systems?

If that happens you can just remote desktop into your pc and uninstall/fix/whatever to solve the problem. I've had to do it a few times for both ati/nv.

Complaining about it needing it is even funnier. W7 comes with it, xp was the only os I needed the .net redist and that's 10 years old now.

I just installed over the old version and it works fine with this 5970. I was actually having more problems with ATI drivers when I'd uninstall and run driver sweeper before installing new drivers.

I am starting to hate ATI. Never had any issues with their drivers but now it seems like they just cant get their together and fix their drivers for a game, they are advertising(BF:BC2).
    I am running 2 5870s in CF.
Both ATI and Nvidia need to get their act together with their drivers. I just reinstalled this 5970 after running a 285 for a while. Recent Nvidia drivers have been breaking old games for me. These games are working with these ATI drivers, but they have their own set of issues.

I started noticing problems with NV drivers during the final stages of development of Fermi. I wonder if these ATI drivers are having issues for the same reason (ie. incorporating features from unreleased hardware during the run up to release).

Really now? I installed these drivers on a clean windows 7 install with no problems. Secondary PC with a 4870 in it, works just fine. No black screen, no crashes. Maybe there was something else wrong with your install/card? Installing the graphics drivers is usually the first thing I do, as I can't stand operating my computers at a low resolution/choppy video performance.
