Gigabyte GA-EP45T-USB3P Overclocking Help

Gigabyte GA-EP45T-USB3P

Brief:
Hiya,

It's been a while since I overclocked a new board, but since my Asus P5WDH - Deluxe died, I went ahead and picked up a Gigabyte GA-EP45T-USB3P. Seemed like the best choice since I had a Q9550 lying around.

This motherboard uses the P45 chipset, and thus far as been good, except for the fact that it won't detect hard drives at all with my Raid Controller, which Gigabyte said they are looking into ( I sent a movie, pictures, and a report to them), and the fact there has been only 1 bios for it, and its a release bios, after its been a few months is a little worrisome. But I will push them on that.

Anyhow time to overclock this little guy. I am not doing anything too Xtreme, as this is my workstation, hence why I went with a reasonable motherboard and not high end. So stability is key. Though I would like to squeeze a little more performance out of her if possible.

Target: I would like the computer to run at 3.6ghz with good temperatures if possible, but I am reasonable at anything above 3.2 ghz depending on what we can work with. I am not expecting to much out of a budget motherboard, but this is a good experiment to see what a budget motherboard can do. As this system is still fairly powerful, and certainly powerful enough for work.

Because I haven't overclocked in a little while, can anyone give a quick primer, and refer to the idiosyncrasies of the P45 Chipset? I also could XMP the ram, and it would hit 3.6ghz, but I am more old school, and overclocking never been easy. Alot of times it took months of work to hit the sweetspot. So I humbly come here for some help, and advice on what the tolerances are, etc.

IE. Volts for the Q9550, bios settings suggestions, etc.

Software:

What is the current good software to bench and test stability.
I fall back to the old standards, Prime95, LinX, MemoryTest, etc. What are the kids using these days?

Lastly, the USB Ports never seem to shut off their power, this is a problem, because it keeps my hub lights on. Anyone have a suggestion?

That's a different series of motherboards though, I did search and find it . None for my USB3 fellow though. If it should be moved, or asked in there, someone else please chime in as well, preferably a mod . Thanks!

I think the USB3 could do with it's own thread to be honest. Would save a lot of users trawling through the UD3x one, althouh it is well worth going through it to pick up hints.

As for your O/C, just try and see what you can push for. There's a chap who got 500x8.5 stable only a few pages on the UD3x thread and I'm quite sure he posted his settings.

as stasio said we are posting on the UD3P thread, tough its right maybe we should so a separate thread but from all my tests you can see there there¿s no need.

first thing that blow my eyes is that u r using extreme mem profile wich will push hard, i suggest you start on standard mate...

for what happened on raid its weird as i migrate from P35 to P45 rev A2 then P45 A3 (UD3P) and now on USB3P never ever had a problem BUT if you are pushing mem hard prollly it started there...

I don't think that you realize that the UD3P and the USB3P are very similar with the main difference being the increased MCH voltage to run high speed DDR3.

You really should read all 100 pages of the UD3P thread, its such a valuable resource and realistically you will find everything you need to know in there

Don't suppose you tried the F2d beta bios then? Might fix those RAID problems?! Was the array created on this board or another one?

Array on this board, and I am testing the F2 bios today, they made one because I been bugging them, I just got it on an email from GB support. So Ill definitely test it.
