Just got my i3-550 and dropped it in. VID is 1.28v, not too happy about that. Best I got after a quick test was able to boot into bios @4.2Ghz with 1.2v.... So much for K0 stepping...

Gonna install OS and see what gives, but I don't have any high hopes with this dog..

    EDIT:
Hmm, it seems like the F5b bios is somewhat buggy, if I set a fixed QPI link I get the crappiest OC, but when on auto I can actually boot into bios @4.9GHz on 1.38v. Oh well, enough with bios "OC", will try some real OC once OS is installed. Still waiting for a cooler though..

No hack job, sorry guys. All stock sinks I bought through Newegg. The company that produces them is ENZOTECH. They make some good stuff imo.

    Here's a few pics.

They make a lot of stuff: http://www.enzotechnology.com/

So guys, back to my question, which chips should I be cooling?

Oh well, best I could do with the i3-550 was 4.3GHz, on stock cooler. To get 4.0 I need 1.35v... I hope is not representative for the K0 stepping...

Up on the shelf it goes, no use to poke in it until the cooler arrives.

Just got my board in and I have two cheapie Clarkdales:

Which of these two do you think will be the better overclocker?

Since everyone's getting in on the fun and my ram is no where to be seen and I don't get my case till tomorrow... I figured I'd go through my old fan collection.

What do you guys think of this set up for some OCing?

Btw.... I think UPS fornicated with my i5 760!

Quick question ..... Are you on F2 or F3 bios? Which do you find better? Mine shipped w/ F2 and I haven't stared OCing yet, but I think I have a lot of headroom.

My vid (core voltage) is 1.152 w/ stock settings while prime runs. Sits around .89v idle. Maybe I lucked out for once?

Well, Malaysia has a better reputation from what I can recall. But again, my 550 dog is a Malasiyan chip so nothing is certain, allways luck of draw..

Not to keep posting stupid questions, but did you guys have any issues w/ sleep mode in windows?

MY PSU DIED LAST NIGHT. It died RIGHT after the rig went into sleep mode. No OC, low voltage ram, gtx260 @ stock. I am confused and I am RMAing with silverstone. Going to call them today and hope they pick up.

I'll be trying for a high OC today, so I think I'll update to F3. I hope there wasn't some bios issue that caused the PSU to die. It just seems coincidental.

Sounds like a freak occurrence to me. I tested S3 with stock and OC; suffered no PSU loss.

I thought so, but wow. At least it is. I've never had a PSU go on me from the get go. Only had a PC&C die and that did F@H for 6 months straight on 3 cards.

Just flashed the bios to F5b (still beta) and it seems stable. I've gotten about 3.88ghz stable around 1.24v or so. 4ghz seems to be very difficult for me. I really have no experience with PQI or 1156/1366 chips as this is my first.

Could someone give me some hints about what is a safe vcore, vtt (and anything else that's relevant) for this board? i don't see a need to even hit 1.3v vcore for my cpu (21x191) but It fails stability even though 185x21 has no issues.

i have very good cooling on my mosfets. ALL copper w/ a san ace cooling them!

Cooling the MOSFETs won't increase their current handling capacity. MOSFETs can conduct well over 100 Celsius if asked to do so. Obviously higher temps aid in junction breakdown over time, but current limits are current limits whether the MOSFET is hot or sitting beneath an ice cold heatsink. If you're pushing with a 4 core chip keep the speed to 3.6GHz tops (most mini-ITX boards hit their long-term safe limits in this range). VCC is three phase, using 30~35 amp FETs.

Thanks for that bit of wisdom. I've never clocked on a board where the board was the safety issue, always the CPU.

So an i5 quad pulls as much voltage as an i7? I thought the i7 would push the board harder, or rather the i5 would stress the board less, ergo allowing a higher OC. Thats why I went i5.

It will stress the board less than an i7. If you want to be truly safe then 3.6Ghz is what I feel comfortable enough telling you to run. You can go higher if you wish, but long term it's probably kinder not to push the FETs to 90%+ all the time.

3.6 is weak, I mean its a $100 board if it dies, then it dies

Sorry, it does fit. Here's some pics from the VR forums about it.... Check it out...

If anyone has any other known working coolers & pics, please post them. I know the H50 and a few others will fit, although clearance is a problem, even for the SG07.
Which coolers are these? I know they are different, and the first one in Synthetickiller's post isn't Shuriken is it, doesn't look like the one I see at Newegg

Just trying to find a cheap partially decent cooler that will fit this board, not in a case, and also fit a 890FXA board as well.

Or can anyone tell me a few $25-40 coolers that would fit that bill, both boards and case clearance does not matter.

I almost have 5 ghz stable on air with my i5 650, it really is very crazy for such a small board.
