This makes absolutely no difference. If the card was sent DIRECTLY to you from the board partner prior to launch, you can't very well assume that retail boards will have the same layout. In this case it simply makes no economical sense for an AIB to use 10 chips on a board which is priced ~$100 lower than a GTX 470.

There is however one way to confirm how things went down: ask your contact at Point of View and see if they 'fess up.

    how though?

it's a BIOS replacement and they can't lock down the BIOS in case something arises like when it was first reviewed

They confirmed that their current boards are all like this, with 10 memory chips . However, I am sure that in the future they will sell the real GTX 465 (GF100-030-A3 marking & 8 memory chips).

    Well in that case...GREAT!

You may however want to call the article "How to Unlock Your Point of View GTX 465".

So far I have seen 8 memory chips on the following:

ASUS (in hand, would not unlock)
Gigabyte (in hand, would not unlock)
EVGA (in hand, would not unlock)
Zotac (in hand, would not unlock)
    MSI (unknown flashing capabilities)
    Galaxy (unknown flashing capabilities)

I am hoping to get an MSI card by the end of next week so I'll update when it arrives.

    10 memory chips on:

    PoV (unlocks)

    Unknown:

    Every other AiB

Trip down memory lane, remember when we where unlocking ATI Sapphie 9950's, then after that came X800 unlocking to X850's.

Those where the days free performance, if you researched correctly, had the right tools and the balls

    Nothing wrong with free performance

    Seasonic Prime TX-850 Platinum | MSI X570 MEG Unify | Ryzen 5 5800X 2048SUS, TechN AM4 1/2" ID
    32GB Viper Steel 4400, EK Monarch @3733/1866, 1.64v - 13-14-14-14-28-42-224-16-1T-56-0-0
    WD SN850 1TB | Zotac Twin Edge 3070 @2055/1905, Alphacool Eisblock
    2 x Aquacomputer D5 | Eisbecher Helix 250
    EK-CoolStream XE 360 | Thermochill PA120.3 | 6 x Arctic P12

It remembers me 9500 Pro, X800GTO² and X1800GTO² times.
That was very cool for the price but a little bit hard to find.

Concerning those GTX 465/GTX 470 unlocks, I will be patient and waiting for more feedbacks. Thanks for sharing buddies

Some Asus GTX 465 can use accompanying software to unlock diabled cores and it performs very close to 470

Theoretically that tool Should work on any card if flashed to Asus 465GTX Bios but still the card suffers from low bandwidth

"Accompanying software" with the ASUS card? What accompanying software? They only ship Smart Doctor and Gamer OSD with their GTX 465 cards...

To recover it you need to place the dead card in the primary slot , any other way and the flashing wont work

WTH is that mysterious Asus GTX465 Upgrade soft?
anyone got donwload link for it?
as i can see it unlocks only steams and leaves memory alone, so it would work with all cards, including those with 8 memory chips.

and what online stores sell POV cards?
