Help needed for 1080P over HDMI

I really could use some help here so in advance I appreciate everyones input.

Here's the setup
Windows 7 64bit
2xATI 5850's 10.4 drivers
Acer H233H 23" has dvi/vga/hdmi inputs
Insignia 32" HDTV 1080P 60hz has vga/hdmi inputs amoung others

Problem
I can not for the life of me get the 32" hdtv to run at 1080P on HDMI. It will at most run 1080i 30hz. Over vga(dvi/vga splitter) it will run 1080p but the quality is less than great with a light rolling refresh lines.

What Ive done
HDMI at 1080P to Acer H233H works fine so I would conclude its not the video card not being capable, while having dvi/vga at 1080p to hdtv. Ive even done this http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...esh-rates.html and the monitor driver has changed from a "pnp generic" to something else random letters/numbers so I know the driver took. I tried forcing 1080P under CCC disabling hidden refresh rates under device properties. And a thousand combinations of doing each.

Any thoughts?

I dont, Ive only done it to confirm the TV does 1080p. You have any thoughts on getting 1080p over HDMI to work?

have u tried setting the refresh rate to 24 or 59hz (if u have a recent one it dose 24hz as it would have 2:3 pull down.)

and the things that u should have checked previously, dose the tv really do 1080p (what model is it), the hdmi cable is not running with power cables or other things that will hurt unshielded cables.


@stevil dsub15 or what u is commonly called vga even though vga is anything 800x600 is analogue and has better color space than hdmi or dvi-d so its better, on most HD tvs it also bypasses the filtering so its going to have better IQ and lower latency as the pc dose not need post processing.

I'd agree zanzabar, but the VGA port often has poor quality due to the analogue signal.

When running HDMI I get nothing at 1080P it just reverts back to 1080i everytime.
Havent found anything that to contradict the 1080p claim.
I suppose some signal noise could be an issue with the vga if thats what you meant as for the hdmi it shows no signs of signal interference.

I had issues with Catalyst doing 1080p over HDMI for a while and eventually had to stop using ATI cards altogether

All i can suggest is to try different driver versions - go back to some really old ones to see if you can at least get a picture.

They removed some options from the CCC when i was last on an ATI card but if they still have these you might try 'use alternate dvi frequency' and the other option beside it - can't remember that one is now

they did not remove options they changed were they are, so now u have to click on a tiny little triangle to get to overdrive and the others.

on getting the tv to work, that is not a 1080p 60hz pannel its a 1080p 59hz panel so u need to go to the desktop properties and select 1920x1080 then 59hz. if that dose not work see if 720p works on 59 or 60hz

Also, most TVs have a specific HDMI port you need to use and then you'll have to go in and configure that port for a PC signal. After your TV is configured you'll need to configure the ATI Catalyst software to work with a TV. The newer ATI drivers should auto detect that it's a TV but still fails at scaling. So you'll probably have to manually configure the scaling.

were did u get that, i have a panasonic and it dose not need to be reconfigured. the problem comes in that ati dose not always auto switch from 60hz to 59hz but when u have the TV ID that it can do 60hz but instead it can only do 59.9hz then it will have problems. also its not scaling its overscan so u can ether set overscan to off as u can find in the monitor/tv settings with the triangle on the display properties or it will be defaulted to 7% as is the broadcast standard. ive never seen a computer that did not work like that on ati or NV or intel its just a matter of finding the settings and i will admit that since the removal of the tree menu its hard to find things in the CCC but its all the same settings as the NV control panel just a different gui

that is from having an lcd with set resolutions that are not running on a resolution that it can do, there should be a scalling option that will fix it thats on by default if u have vista sp1 or 7

It's not an LCD, and it's not a problem with the TV, switching to a 9600GT immediately got rid of numerous issues such as this one.

Sorry didnt update this I was able to add a extension file to the windows generic Pnp monitor driver using the link I provided in my OP just took some time to find what was needing altered.
Eveything works great at 1080p 60hz with no scaling/overdrive, even audio over the hdmi.
Also its my under standing its a windows7 driver issue playing safe on displays that dont have specific EDID's for their model.
Nvidia I suppose has manged a better work around than ATI is all.

I've service a couple thousand different LCD TVs and going through hundreds of manuals EVERY LCD tv has a section like this:

How to Auto Adjust

With a description on how to sync the signal correctly. You may get a clear picture without setting it up correctly but it will diminish the lifespan of the TV significantly. A PC has a completely different signal than any other connection that would go into a TV. Which is why you have to reconfigure the port for PC.
