You can't kill a modern day cpu by heat - there are in-built triggers (bios, cpu) that should kick in long before it comes to that. Hell, even the old Intel Pentiums had that tech. AMD's cpus did not, and I don't know if they've since implemented this feature. Intel processors employ different strategies to combat heat; down-clocking, undervolting, and finally, shutting down. Edit: I believe Unclewebb has done some extensive testing with this; that was, before Intel released its whitepaper on temps, iirc.
