Whatever you do you better use this distro http://www.osx86install.com/osx86new...lion-1071.html as its been optimized to run Lion with a custom bootloader than will allow you to boot and install suing the same disc...

PS remember to burn the distro correctly as I think is a dmg image (which isnt too hard )

Alright I'll give that a shot. Chameleon is already on it? I don't have to boot with an iBoot-type CD first?

    my hackintosh hardware has arrived!

I've installed only 2 case fans - one running @ 5V, the other @ 7V... I've also hard-set the PSU fan @ 5V - so this rig is near silent

Obviously depends on your hardware but if you are running a Intel Chip and mobo (specially gygabyte) then you are most likely to install fine LOL TBH I've always installed the distros on Verbosa to see the bugs or errors... sometimes on safe mode to -X...

    Happy Hackintosh....

ok when you use the L1 disc and boot from it first make sure you set your HDD in the bios to AHCI (advance host control interface) and set your power management to S3 then when you boot the disc type first -v and then press enter...

    noob terms

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euxGwV1TaQo

when you boot the disc and find yourself on this splash screen at 0.22 secs type -v and press enter...

when u successfully boot in verbose it would help if you videoed the process so I could see where it stops or crashes so I could tell ya what to do next... if you want ill make a video of the verbose mode so you can see what to do and whats happening? whatever you do dont give up mate I learned by mistake and have been experimenting for a very long time and if you are serious about it keep trying.. I promise that it will work with your hardware trust I have installed SL and Lion on weirder things! bare in mind am at work so I might take a while to answer you and video record it...

    Happy Hackintoshing

ok, I'll give that a try

as for AHCI - I have set it in BIOS to 'Enhanced' - there is no option that specifically mentions AHCI so I presume 'Enhanced' = AHCI (or the closest to it)

once I've typed '-V' what next? do I type anything else?

I'll watch that video you linked now

Ok I presume that your board sets AHCI when you set your HDDs to Enhance cos Gigabytes mobos call options differently to other boards (donno why lol) but yeah after loading the disc all you gotta type is -v and press enter, the splash screen will go black and white letters will load up and the cpu cores will load and other stuff if it stops or KPs right down the error and type it here, mind you it might load really slow or it might take a while to load as long as the disc keeps spinning you are good , also if you see and option like *DSMOS has arrive it means that you are most likely to have the correct Hardware and it will load correctly. BUT it might stop after that though as I said just keep a look and record what you see on the screen or take a picture of the error it will help greatly

    Intel Q8400
Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L rev.1.1 (has realtek LAN & Audio)
    Nvidia 7600GS
    2x2GB kingston ddr2-800
    WD740ADFD - second generation 74GB WD Raptor

I going to hazard a guess......... the ICH7 doesn't like the Raptor......... I have had numerous motherboards from different manufacturers with either ICH5(R) & ICH6, that have not liked 2nd gen Raptors. The only time I have gotten a ICH5R to work with a 2nd gen Raptor, is when I installed linux.

    what say you?

Right give me 10 to pinpoint what the hardware that is causing it to have still waiting for root device ok what I would advise you is to keep only 1 hdd plugged in and running the disc with -v and -x too it should read like this

    -v -x

give that a try while I do some research on your board..

    ok cool!

I did a quick test with another HDD - it doesn't appear to be the raptors fault
I have also taken out the 7600GS - still no go

I see there are mayor differences between Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L 1.1 revision and 2.X so my guess is that the chipset for the Audio or Ethernet is not included try disabling the Lan cos their isnt a kext for it anyway that way it will late you install then we can worry about DSDTs and Kexts...
