    Are you using the 32bit or 64bit version? If it's the 64bit one you need to install the 32bit libraries for the science applications to work. The instructions are in a few threads but the closest is the one about linux and HCC work.

    here's the command to install the necessary 32 bit libraries . open up a terminal window and type in this command.

    sudo apt-get install ia32-libs

    You could need a little more depending on what's included with 10.04:

    sudo apt-get install ia32-libs libstdc++6 libstdc++5 freeglut3

    I had the exact same error message 2 days back. Fix was easy, just like D_A and Jaco said.
    Open terminal, type in "sudo apt-get install ia32-libs", then reboot the machine after it's finished. Then fire up BOINC x64 and it'll work just fine.
    I forgot to reboot at first...

    It's a little thing, but unlike Windows, when you install a 64bit Linux OS you often get a PURE 64bit OS. No 32bit stuff in there AT ALL. Given how long our hardware has been 64bit, there's little excuse for so much software to be stuck in 32bit Land, but in MS-ville it seems most of it is so people expect to be able to run "whatever". The only reason I have any 32bit libraries on my systems (not counting the Sossaman of course, which actually IS a 32bit system) is to run WCG. Other than that everything is compiled for 64bit and multi-processor operation.

    in order to restart and keep files when using a usb doesn't the install have to be persistent or something like that?
