Futuremark Annouce 3DMark 11 - Tech demo and Screenshot released.

Here we go, after a few rumors and leaks by MSI, here is the official annoucement from Futuremark about 3DMark11 !

We are excited to put an end to the rumors today by officially
announcing 3DMark 11, the latest version of our popular benchmark for
gamers. For your readers we have a new trailer created entirely with
DirectX 11 using an early build of the 3DMark 11 engine. The "Deep Sea"
trailer is a tantalizing glimpse of what gamers can expect from DirectX
11 games in years to come.

3DMark 11 is the latest version of the world’s most popular benchmark for measuring the 3D graphics performance of gaming PCs. 3DMark 11 uses a native DirectX 11 engine designed to make extensive use of all the new features in DirectX 11, including tessellation, compute shaders and multi-threading. 3Dmark 11 is the best way to consistently and reliably test DirectX 11 under game-like loads. 3DMark is trusted by gamers and enthusiasts worldwide to cut through marketing hype and technical jargon to give accurate and unbiased guidance for PC hardware purchasing decisions. Coming Q3 2010

the effects are pretty good, proper use of depth of field, and lighting, but the bump/displacement mapping could use alot of work, that kind of stuff should have algae and crap growing off of it, it looks like the rust on the metal is just hard. and for best quality, the camera effects should try to mimic that of the subs more than just free roaming (make it more movie like, instead of tech demo like)

Same feeling here... Rocks - but DX11!!! (but still rocks)

I hope we will get more action and nature scenes as a preview to future games.

the news says: "Deep Sea is a demonstration of DirectX 11 technologies created using an early development build of the 3DMark 11 engine. The Deep Sea build of 3DMark11 does not represent the final scope of the benchmark and does not produce a 3DMark score. There are no plans to release the Deep Sea tech demo to the public."

we need to wait for the final benchmark I think

Being a marine biology enthusiast, I was actually disappointed by the WIP video.

In the beginning there is a bare rock wall. Where are the sponges, crinoids, ascidians, gorgonians, azooxanthellate corals, and other non-photosynthetic filter feeders and detritivores?

Then there is a scene with what looks like gorgonians - but without any polyp extension, a missed chance for extra tessellation.

Then there is a scene with a rusty wreck encrusted with barnacles (but without cirri extended) but still no other filter feeders or detritivores.

Through the whole thing the water is perfectly clear. There should be a constant stream of marine snow through the light cone, a wide variety of animals (fish, shrimp, squid, etc) attracted to the lights, and bioluminescent animals off in the darkness.

I liked the lighting model and the textures seem good (though bland). But I think they really missed the mark in terms of capturing the potential eye-candy in the deep ocean. I hope it's less sterile in the final version.

I wonder if there will be a 3D bench as well, so like 3DPerformance, 3DXtreme, etc seeing as it needs to render double the frames

Looks pretty unimpressive. That tiny area is supposed to murder our graphics cards for the next few years? Looks sparse on detail and view distance is like 10 feet.

I see lots of tessellation - 5870 will most likely suck. We should hope Southern Islands will catch up with this.

Graphics look pretty good to me, scene and music kinda boring. Are the guys @ FM getting too old lol? They should bring back Teque, his music set the tone for some great 3dMark scenes.

Meh from that video. Would have liked to see more of the tests than just the underwater.

Terrible simulation of underwater at that as well. No particles I could tell and the swaying motion of the coral in the video was all the same. All the different coral was moving at the same time.

    Meh.
