    Question 256GB Crucial C300 + Pcmark Vantage 64bit = No HDD suite score ?

Hey guys thought some folks might be able to figure this out.

I ran 80GB Intel X25-M G2 os partition win7 ultimate for my i7 980x review rig and could run pcmark vantage 64bit 1.02 hdd suite for my 80gb intel x25-m g2 and 120gb ocz vertex 1.5 for 29k and 24k respectively in hdd suite score.

But tried running 256GB Crucial C300 G01 as empty drive as well as cloning over 80GB Intel x25-m g2 disk to Crucial c300 and in both cases, ran hdd suite for pcmark vantage 1.02 and it would do all 20 mins of tests but when i submit score it's completely blank no score and N/A for all hdd test suite sub tests ?

I have no probs with ATTO, AS SSD, Crystaldiskmark for C300 though.

    any ideas ?

edit: tried pcmark05 hdd suite and virus scan gets 0.00 score ?? but rest of subtests in hdd suite run fine.

    80GB Intel X25-M G2 vs 256GB Crucial C300

    Hi George

You might have some luck using a different driver. I have a similar issue with Sandforce drives and AMD 890 boards. First run of PCMark Vantage returns a proper HDD score. Each consecutive run results in a lower score until there is no score. The only fix I have found is a reinstall of the operating system. This happens using the native Win7 drivers. If I use AMD's drivers Vantage runs properly regardless how many times I run it.

Yay Intel AHCI driver fixed it

PCmark Vantage 64bit 1.02 with Intel driver = HDD suite score of 37,662 !

Note: 256GB Crucial RealSSD C300 is a direct clone from 80GB Intel X25-M with C drive 64GB partition at 51% full.

Good to hear it is fixed. You got to the bottom of it a lot faster then I did. I can't help but feel this is a PCMark Vantage problem. Like your results, no other benchmark I ran showed any indication of a problem. Hopefully FutureMark can get this sorted out.

Eva - what was your before and after score delta (x25m change to c300)?

Thanks Praz, I was holding off on using Intel RST drivers until after my 980x review is complete as didn't want to rock the boat, but I just bought a 2nd hand HD5970 so want to test it out, so cloned to the crucial ssd so can update drivers to cat 10.4x without touching my review config.

Steve pcmark vantage hdd suite numbers were

    intel 80gb x25-m g2 = 29k
    ocz 120 vertex 1.5 firmware = 24-25k
    crucial 256gb g01 = 37.6k

    980x review spoiler: It's awesome.

After anand's 2 crappy c300s there is a ton of negative sentiment around different forums about these drives. I'm always happy to see more positive experiences that match my own. There is no magic ssd currently that performs exactly the same in all areas, they all have trade offs.

Im running two ssds right now and my Intels come up low in the same tests (I think). Maybe its just that the OWC Mercury Extreme Pro RE drive (left) is that much better than the X25m 160Gb....see below

Having said that, I find Crystal and AS SSD have separate results on compressed/non-compressed drives. I cannot get an ideal score in the OWC with AS SSD and it was the same with Crystal initially but the newest version of Crystal allows an option with 0-Fill which produces ideal results for both drives. It has to be the fact that the Intel doesnt utilize compression as the OWC does.

Eva - thanks - i think you are confirming what anvil is seeing - c300s are perhaps the fastest ssd's currently available.

    Praz,

Almost exactly the same score as I got during one of my previous tests.
So far, 2R0 LEs perform better than 2R0 C300s on PCMV HDD tests as well.

I haven't found the performance spot yet though.

ICH10R, no OC. (that's @4GHz but no pcie OC)
    2R0 LE ~ 86-87' points
    2R0 c300 ~ 75-80' points

(can't remember the excact figures, but should be close enough)

    edit

The C300s where running fw 0001 at that point, I haven't tried the HDD test using 0002 yet.
    (0002 looks to perform better)

    edit2:
Just for the record, the 2R0 figures are benched without the OS installed on them, RST 9.6, WBC On.
(can't be too careful these days)

My benches were run with the drive configured as the boot drive. The screenshot is from two days ago but an average score is more in the mid to upper 41xxx. Although the scores are good it is hard for me to put a lot of faith in them when I see how fast things fall apart using the wrong driver.

One of my C300s actually performed better in benchmarks after being used for 3 weeks in my laptop, go figure.

It does look like the scores drop a bit on the LEs, not by much though, I guess it depends on how they're being used.

I'm quite happy with both of them.
