    NIC Cards

Which one of the following NIC cards from Intel is faster/better IRL? I know PCI-E is faster than PCI but I heard there were some latency issues with PCI-E.

    The PCI-E x1 version: http://www.intel.com/products/deskto...t-overview.htm

    or the PCI version: http://www.intel.com/products/deskto...t-overview.htm

for a desktop i like the $30 intel one, they do make a difference if u have intranet transfers or have a bad integrated one like the realtech or marvel with no cashe. if u want a lower ping on a low traffic computer/network like what bigfoot markets its not going to happen and u need a better router or isp

I've considered trying an Intel PCI-E card but my Realtek has performed really well. The only issue I ever have is sometimes connecting at 100Mbps instead of 1Gbps but other than that, throughput seems good. I've topped out at 60-70 MB/s which is the max that my Synology NAS can do though I'm not sure of the true limits of the onboard NIC.

Will these PCI-e cards make a difference in gaming? Like a lower latency/smoother gameplay? Right now I'm using an onboard Realtek.

it will drop your ping a few percent but they are mostly for high throughput, if u have $30 and a slot to burn then they are great but it will most likely not be noticeable for internet use on a residential line. if u torrent and game at the same time it may make a notable difference

thats just a killer nic with an evga sticker, they wont do any better than the intel. u can pick them up on ebay for like $50 sometimes i guess that would be worth it but they normally sell for $100+ and they are not better than the intel
