    Screen Tearing?

Is it possible for a monitor to cause screen tearing? This is my first ATI card, but ive owned a gtx 260, and a gtx 295 before this, and there was a huge amount of screen tearing. So ive been through 3 cards, 4 HDMI cables, and 2 DVI cables to no avail. Changed setting in the Nvidia Control pannel when i had Nvidia cards and it did nothing.... so is it possible for the monitor to be causing this problem!?

Every setting available is on and maxed out if possible.

Are you getting tearing at the desktop itself? I noticed I would get random tearing on my desktop ( Areo; Vista or Win 7 ) using my 4870x2 and even a few of my Nvidia cards from days past. This was using my 24" LCD. Im not sure if the problem was specific to the display or the video card(s) to be honest as with my 5870 it has never croped up on either of my displays. The only way to stop it for me was a full reset. Switching to basic to areo again would sometimes fix it but not always. Wether it is a hardware or software issue is beyond me.

If you are only refering to fullscreen 3D, vysnc is not always effective, especially with dual gpu configs I've found. I'd often have vysnc enabled with my SLI 260s / 4870x2 and I'd still see some tearing. The framerate was capped at the display refresh rate but it still showed visible tearing. This is one of the big pluses I've noticed using a 120hz display, tearing is nearly a thing of the past. Interestingly enough even at framerates in excess of 120, tearing is still minimal if not nearly gone. On my 24" tearing was very noticeable and as I'm not a fan of vsync, I put up with it.
