    Question Using wake timers

WCG Super Computer week was a hoot and I intend to keep crunching albeit at a reduced pace.

I'd like to set this up to happen automatically on a daily schedule.
I see and understand the BOINC preferences panel settings for this but am unsure how to tell the computer how to wake up (and stay awake) to start BOINC.
Last night, it appears the box just slept right through the BOINC schedule.

This morning, I enabled "Wake Timers" in the Power control panel>advanced settings but I don't know yet whether this will solve the issue by itself.

I do realize there's a bios setting for scheduling wakeup but surely this can be handled at the OS level.

Does this require a scheduled task, or....what??

What do I need to tweak to make this work, crunchers?

relevant factoid-All the boxes I intend to implement this on are running W7.
    Currently messing with:
    Intel DP55SB Sharpsberg
    i7-860 (stock) under a Zalman CNPS-8700NT cooler
    4x4GB Corsair Vengence @ 1600
XFX Radeon 5850 Black Edition (765, 1125 stock)
Mushkin Chronos DX 240GB and 1.5 TB WD Black
Powered by a Seasonic X-650 and stuffed into a Silverstone GD05 case

I don't think a Pc can turn itself on without exterior modification (or maybe a bios setting), unless you put it into standby mode (though that'll mean that it's still pulling power).

If you can stomach the few watts that a standby requires look at this page.

Most BIOSs have an alarm setting on the power management page which allows the PC to switch itself on at xx:xx everyday.

    Thanks, guys.
Perhaps I wasn't clear but the computer I want to awaken and start work is just sleeping, as in moving the mouse brings it right back up.
It's not physically turned off using the power switch.

I've now created a task using the link you posted, Gonzalo and will see what that does.

Have already noticed another problem though which is that BOINC (at least running at 60% on my sig rig) also does not prevent the computer from going to sleep.
So even if I can get it to wake up and start crunching unattended in the middle of the night it is just going to go right back to sleep in a half hour.
Of course I can easily prevent it from going to sleep ever but that's not the goal here.

Really shouldn't be this difficult to make this work.

Why do you need it to sleep? I guess you could configure it not to go to sleep after x minutes and set your power button to put it to sleep, that way you can hit the button, walk away and it'll wake up to crunch without going back to sleep unless you press the button again. All I can think of is this hypothetical example:
    • You want it to crunch between 8PM and 5AM
    • You leave home at 7PM, pressing the power button (which has been configured for sleep) as you leave
    • The scheduled task that Gonzalo-Gonads posted wakes your PC at 7:55PM, ready to crunch as per your preferences in BOINC
    • At 5AM your crunching stops as per your preferences set in BOINC
    • At 5:05AM a scheduled task puts your PC back to sleep

    How's that?
