Impressive deal for the base of a cheap cruncher - $99

    http://www.microcenter.com/specials/...AMDbundle.html

You can get an Athlon X4 630 and a motherboard for $99! Or try your luck with a Phenom II X2 555 and unlock it (no idea if the board unlocks or not).

Thought I would share. It's tempting to me considering I was about to drop $200 on a Phenom II X6 1055T...but I am going to go ahead with that for the long term power benefits of a single setup.

That X2-250 deal looks sweet as well. If there was a Micro Center near me, I'd definitely go buy an X4-630.

Yeah, I have no use for the X2, especially when I already have a Sempron 140 that unlocks to an X2 and hits 4Ghz, but that deal is so amazing lol.

If someone does not live near an MC and is seriously interested in the deal I would be willing to go pick one up for someone and ship it if someone wants to just paypal the cash. There is an MC about 30-40 min from me, I go there on occasion for deals like this. I would be glad to help get another cancer fighter on its way.

the board DOES NOT unlock.. I thought it might with the sb710... but no dice... I got an x2 555 and I am regretting that decision... the 630 w/ the board is an amazing deal tho... can't be beat right now.. and this isn't going to last long..

FYI to give some idea of performance, I've had a 620 @ 2.6Ghz running 90% CPU usage( in BOINC preferences), (so i guess equivilent of around 2.4Ghz?) it's producing the following in QCG statistics:

    5/3/10 0:003:13:23:08 9,583 21
    5/2/10 0:003:10:40:39 9,574 19

its only been a couple of days so see if it changes over nxt few days.. it just crunches away full time and always online.

Given they OC to around 3.3-3.5 without having to tocuh voltages or cooling I'm thinking they'd be good for around 13-14k / day?

I can't wait to finish college. I applied for a job at State Street already for their Boston and NYC branches. I doubt I'll get the job (I'm currently a Junior) now, but perhaps in 1-2 years. Either way, MicroCenter has NYC & Boston locations. It wasn't a prereq for a job (the prereq was Big City), but it's a very nice bonus. Doubly-so since MicroCenter has been doing these awesome promotions for years.

You ought to bump usage up to 100%; that'll use SPARE cycles but WCG is always the last application considered. Dual+core processors should be fine running at 100%, though single-core's commonly seem sluggish with WCG@100%.

Rebels Haven is a separate forum dedicated to bios modding. havent been over there in a long time but the owner has a thing for biostar and i remember they used to release mod bios for a lot of boards. mostly high-end ones but it is worth a look, and you can post requests for mods too.

Well I just got back from Microcenter! And all I can say is that I will NEVER do business with them again!

I wanted to get a Phenom II X6 1055T as I said before, and I just couldn't resist the urge to throw on this deal upon checkout so I did. I ordered it online for web pickup. I got there, went to check out and the girl went and got her manager. Apparently they were not willing to sell me the order anymore because I had two different CPU's that were "on sale" on the order. Even though the order went through and was charged to my credit card! I see that it said limit one per household on each CPU but it says nowhere that I can't get two different CPU models.

Here is the kicker - the 1055T that I ordered - for $200, was one of the "on sale" CPU's. They said it was normally $250 and I was being sold the CPU at a loss to them. So, they basically admitted to me that they price gouge and then apply a "discount" equal to the amount needed to get back to market price and try and play it off as some gift. The 1055T has NEVER been a $250 cpu even at launch, so it's complete BS.

They told me at the counter I had to either pick just the 1055T or the $99 combo deal. Which is great because they were absolutely losing money on the combo deal but were unwilling to let me give them $200 of my own money to help offset their loss because they have shady business practices.

I told them to cancel my order and left it on the counter and they will never receive my business again. They already overcharge compared to Newegg, TigerDirect, Amazon, ZipZoomFly, etc. The only advantage they had to me is convenience - which is no longer offered apparently. I can't trust them as a respectable business. I placed an order - was charged, and then they took it back at the counter? I have to drive 40 minutes each way to go there. So I wasted an hour and a half of driving to top it all off.

Same exact story happened to me except it was an i7 920 and i5 630, also I drove 2 hours there and back.

I got 3 of the bundles.. I just brought 3 friends... gave each of them $100 and off we went individually . I mean.. they ARE going to sell them all in the end... why do they care? I think the ONLY reason they do this is so small companys don't go in buy them all out and then get made profit of PC builds etc...

Well, first let me say that I have never had an issue at MC, in fact they have matched Newegg several times. That being said, you should have just either spoke with the Store manager and if that wasn't possible asked for the Regional manager's number. You could have also said no problem, got one of the orders, walked out and went back thirty minutes later and got the other deal. Speaking of the deal on the 1055T, it is at $200 but it also comes with a MB for free, it's posted on their website:

    http://www.microcenter.com/specials/...0427_AMDbundle

Granted it isn't the best board, but it is free. I have always found that I get more with honey than vinegar, but sometimes you just have to use vinegar to get your way.

Actually the 1055T does not come with a free board but it does give a $50 off deal if you want to pick one. However, I was not even attempting to do that - they were not losing a single penny by me also wanting to get the 1055T, me getting it had no affect on their profit other than they were getting back some of the obvious loss of the combo. I argued that with them, I had the store manager come over - he called the regional manager and was told to not allow it. I'm sure I could have left (maybe) and come back but that is besides the point. They sold me the order. They charged me. I drove to their store and was denied at the counter. The order has nothing but positives for them. They still denied me, and thus wasted my time and lost me as a customer.

It really is their loss because when you combine what I have spent there just on myself and what I have spent building systems on the side for people, this little BS move by them has lost them easily 1000x any savings they think they have made.

Well, if you have a Fry's in your area you can go there, they have AMD combo deals all the time. I just picked up a Triple 440 with MB for $80 after MIR. Not sure if it unlocks to a quad core, but the $ to performance ratio is high either way. Anyway, sucks that you ran into issues with MC. I would still send an email to their customer service and explain the details to them, who knows, maybe they will "Go the extra mile" for you, doesn't hurt to try.
