    First time builder. Build log

    Componants used for this build:

    Highly (Hitachi) CHZ33LC4-U Compressor
    Piotres 1m lineset
    0.92 cap tube 2.86m length
Luve Contardo STVF 194 1935w Condenser

These pics are the dry assembled SS.
It was pointed out to me by Dualist at Benchtec UK, that the high side valve was in the wrong position.
So this was changed at the brazing stage, along with a tee on the low side valve as well.

Next was to braze it all up. A much harder job than i thought it would be, because of getting the Nitrogen flow correct.
Cleaned it all up with Scotchbrite and water. I was quite pleased with the result.

Next thing was the vacing down. A bit of a disaster an hour into it, the motor on my vac pump went up in smoke.
But EvoCarlos (Benchtec UK) came to the rescue and lent me his. Vac'ed it down overnight, just over 10 hours.

Next was to get some r507 into the beast. 60psi Liquid through the high side to start her up.
Then topped her up through the low side with gas as she was running. Eventual pressure was 220psi.
I did'nt take any pics at the end, but static is about 160psi and start up 260psi/270psi.
Anyway, my first frost (shan't forget that in a hurry Lol).

As i don't have a load tester, Wprime 1024 8 threads at 1.6v was used to give me a good indicater of load holding.
The result is much better than i expected. As you can see, hardly any drop worth worrying about.
The first pic is Wprime near the end of the run, with the temp at -47c under full load.
The second pic is Wprime completed, with the temp at -48.6c. This then settled at -50c

Very nice clean job on this build. I really like how you brazed all this out and then showed step by step how you got to fully running unit.

    Clean brazes and nice temps

    Good job

If it wasn't for the "Phase workshop" day at your place Baz, i may never have got around to building one in the first place , so a big thanks to you and Paul.

Thanks for all the other nice posts above as well, i sort of had in my mind the build would get "ripped to bits" once i had posted it

I hear there might be 1 or 2 guys across the pond that know phase
You have a STRONG knowledge base to pull from over there and by the looks of things, you're well on your way....( the bright side )

I would have replied sooner but the compression explosion device in my motion traction system needed to be replenished with distillation fractionation of fossilisation extraction....

I don't know what to say really runmc.................just thanks. I had no idea that my little build would be so well recieved. The proof of the pudding is in the eating of course, but this thing is just amazing me day by day. So far, regardless of Vcore or VTT, i havn't seen the evap temp drop below -46c. Shure temps in Real Temp have been +, but the evap temp has always stayed stable.

Very nice... found out about this builld after "k" nocked me out of first place in EVGA's "I7 Club stability" thread... his temps did not even go over what RealTemp could read running close to 4.9ghz LinX stress testing!

What I find incredible is that this phase hold such great temps on with the heat load of an OCed i7. Is this the best build to date for heat removal from a SS or have there been better?

Is this the best evaporator head to date?

Excuse me for asking questions that I could probably find if I do a little reading in these threads... I'm just a little excited about "K"s results as I have three i7 980x chips coming in this week to OC after taking a 6 month break from the late night OC addiction... LOL.

OK... off to catch up on some XS reading.

    Thank's for the comments OC333.
I really don't know if this SS has been bettered at it's load holding ability. Some of the more experienced builders here would know much better than me.
All i can say is that the componants were chosen with load holding and temps in mind, so the end result is much as it was planned in the first place.
I chose a Piotres lineset for 2 reasons:
    1) I wasn't confident in my brazing abilities when i started the build. Because the lineset and evap is the most difficult bit to braze, i didn't want to risk "ing it up".
    2) Peter's work is just about the best around in Europe when it comes to linesets, so it was the obvious choice for me.

Hard to say best load as he doesn't actually have a load tester though. But it is a great unit.

This should give you an idea of the load: http://i43.tinypic.com/aeqqvq.jpg

For some reason... I was thinking that load temps were below 0*c... but these temps are still awesome!!!

    ^^

That pic is slightly out of date now OC333. I have actually run Linx at 5ghz now:

During that run i did take a pic of the Evap temp, which is below. One thing i will point out to you though, don't take any notice of any "software " produced temp readings when running sub-zero.
The only temp you need to know is the Evap temp. If it starts to rise and continues to rise when stress testing the cpu, then you know that you have reached the limit of the SS you are using.
As you can see from the pic below, at 5ghz HT on, the Evap is still holding at -50c. So in my mind, there is still scope for getting this clock even higher.
