How frustrating is that... doing 25 passes on LinX at 4.67ghz and 1866 mem and 3733 uncore. Each pass scratching at 102gflops and it BSODs on the 24th pass at full mem of 12gigs with a 101 stop code >.< vcore at 1.51825v... temps are average 85-89*c so ill bump it to 1.525 and try one more time. After it passes, its back down to 4.13ghz for the spring and summer to keep cores at 60*c and below.

Malik think you missed my post after yours on previous page. I suggested a 970 since 6cores have made a large difference to my photography image processing times. Highly recommend hexcore + X58 over SB.

What I found to be fascinating was the die size; 22nm!!
From my experience skul, that happens purely due to too much heat. Maybe not necessarily just the CPU, but the surrounding components as well.
A trick I found is to do the run with the pc near a open window on a relatively cool night. It's like cheating to make your rad stay cool but hey, it works. I'll admit that was how I got to 4.5GHz . I did mention ambients tho haha
P.S. PPCs has the EK full MB block for $79.95. Both acetal and acrylic versions

OMG WOW!
You got a chip worse than mine .... LOL, sucks to be you :p
If you already had a better 920 before, why didnt you keep it until you had finished testing the 960?
Mine does 4.2 Ghz with 1600 Mhz ram with 1.38v CPU and 1.275v QPI. My Cas 6 2 Gb modules worked with 1.59v DRAM, and my new Corsairs are doing fine with 1.35v at Cas 9 (higher timings, but the PC feels a lot faster with the larger modules).
But your results confirm that gambling from a 920 to a 960 isnt worth it. The only CPU that would be worthwhile upgrading to for 920 owners is the 970 for is 32 nm and extra 2 cores, but its still too expensive for most people.
LOL, what a fail
Hopefully Ivy Bridge and Bulldozer will make the I7 970 even cheaper for us R3E owners to get a nice upgrade.
Yea, but if you already have such a nice R3E mobo, and a decent I7 chip running over 4 Ghz, you should skip this gen and wait for 16 nm

i actually don't seem to have any heat issues at all. CPU stays in low to mid 80's during load and i have a full mobo wate block aswell. i think i might toy with the PWM freqs though and see if that'll help... though i highly doubt that's the issue. everything on the board stays around 35-39*c most of the time. as for my rad, i use a stupid huge Mora3 Pro 9x120mm rad which has prooven to be good for daily clocks and silent fans... but when i do load prime95 and leave it going for about 5-8 hours, it does seem to get heat soak. startin to think my two 4x120 BlackIce GTX xtreme 480's would be more effective for these high loads for extended amounts of time.

rampage friends... is that sure that the EK waterblock that fits this RIIIE fits the same on the RIII Black Edition?! i need to know this... couse i'm about to do that
For me it fits, i own both and the EK block but decide to not place it on the BE.

My EK WB barely fits on my non black. I almost removed my 1st PCI-E x16 slot lock because it has to be bent to fit correctly with the block.
I don't want to send the block back because I need my computer.

Better because some new bios settings are great to control memory oc like the feature to stop memory disappear when you boot, better voltage accuracy (on my r3e the vcore was really high compare to bios setting).
I love the boot post led too, so it's better not too much but better in feature, perf clock to clock and look!

I did some fotos from my r3be bios here:
http://picload.org/folder/cid.html
but that 0404 bios feels like a beta, cpu temp reading is wrong, and southbridge / northbridge temp readings are completely missing in this bios.
regards ac001
Interesting, will be good to see how it compares as it matures. I have no intention of swapping over, I really like the R3E now I have GT, but interested nonetheless.
zoson I had no clearance issues with my EK block, the first PCI-E lock is close but doesnt quite touch (I mean by fractions of a mm) the block.

Supposedly 10.1.0.1008 is the version included in the 1208 bios?
Interesting thread on the crucial forum suggesting raiding a single drive for better performance on ICH1OR and custom intel rom updates to the newest rom and rst drivers:
Not yet tested the custom 1208 ROM mod yet ( thanks lsdmeasasp ). Cross posting in case any one else might be interested.lsdmeasasp
Here ya go man, the version included in that BIOS was 10.1.0.1008
Here is modified BIOS with the latest I have, 10.5.0.916
http://www.mediafire.com/?7zvoxxxgia2xqib
And here is latest RST Drivers as well 10.5.0.1015
http://www.station-drivers.com/page/intel%20raid.htm
This would be untested, as I am a Gigabyte guy myself, but all looks good from here and I just did a few similar BIOSes last week. Flashing is at your own risk, which should be fine, please let me know how things go!
Thanks

Just tested the 1208 mod bios and it flashes fine but does not work in RAID mode. If I boot in RAID mode with 1208mod there are no drives detected on the ICH10R. Seems to work fine in ACHI and IDE modes though....

here's a curious issue...
was doing one last improvement to my gFlops for the LinX thing with settings as follows:
vcore - 1.525v
VTT - 1.36825v
DRAM - 1.68
MEM - (stock) 1866 @ 9-9-9-24-82 (rtrl stock is 74 but bios only does 72 and it seems to get goofy)
CPU - 4.672ghz @ 133x35
QPI - 6400
UNCORE - 3733
thing is... at this sitting it was pushing 102gflops consistantly... and frustratingly stoping on error between tests 17 and 20 after about 2 to 2 and half hours on full mem (12gb).
the oddest thing... seems this last day or two. every time i go back to refine the tuning and try again gflops droped to 99... and then again to 97-98. now i haven't tryed again today but i'm gonna assume it might do it again . there doesn't seem to be any degrading going on, going back down to normal daily clocks that i run, it's perfectly stable and haven't had to increase vcore any at all. for the moment i'm leaning more toward just some odd randomness.

I just looked at the BIOS again, and I don't see Intel AHCI ROM in there, that is probably why the RAID ROM fails although I dunno since 10.1.0.1008 is in there to begin with?
Not sure though, and I could be missing the AHCI ROM, I was in a hurry. I'll check when I get home, can anyone verify that Intel AHCI ROM is used, I'd expect 1.20E, and if it's used you should see the AHCI BIOS load during POST if you don't haev quick boot or fast boot enabled.
If Intel AHCI ROM is used, and it's older, maybe that needs to be updated as well first before the newer RAID ROM will work? If so, once I find it I'll replace it as well and you guys can test if you like.
