combination of d14 and this corsair modules won't fit!

in my situation, i rotated the d14 by 90degrees so airflow is now pushed from the top of the case through the d14 down to the vga card. did not want to push hot air from the top of the vga card through the d14, so i decided to go the physically not so optimal direction.

anyway, in order to install the memory module in the 2nd slot of channel a, i also removed about 10mm of the bottom two fins of the d14 with a dremel!

have read reports from ppl who were able to install this combination (memory/hsf) but i was not able to do this here without the described modifications ...

pm me if you are interested in pics ...

    Hi guys.

I am maybe considering buying the Kingston HyperX KHX2250C9D3T1FK3/6GX 2250MHz Triple Channel Kit to replace my current Corsair Dominator GT 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 16000C8 2000MHz Triple Channel Kit
but before I decide, I was wondering if anyone knows how the good this memory is on performance and overclockability etc? and is it worth it over the Corsair Dominator GT memory I have already?

I have also read this ram has the same problem as the Corsair Dominator when using a Noctua NH-D14, and as far as i`m aware the fins on the Kingston can`t be removed like the Corsair ones, so i`m
wondering if there is any other way to use the Kingston HyperX 2250MHz memory when using the Noctua NH-D14?

I did have a idea of possibly cutting the heat sink fins on the Kingston HyperX down thought this wouldn`t damage them but would void the warranty as a lot of sites say the hight of the heat sink fins
are a bit overkill anyways but should I do this?

    Thanks for responding.

Hey thanks for sharing, actually I'm upgrading the system and I'm watercooling the new build (CPU n video cards ) infact I got all of the new build parts n I'm also selling my Kingston 1333mhz n planning to get something better, I was thinking either corsair Dom gt 2000mhz or the dom 1600mhz cause the current one I have is 1333mhz 9-9-9-24 max vol is 1.5v best latency i was able to get from it is 8 8 8 22 with 1450mhz it's the last part I have after selling all the previous build

My plan is to get decent dimms with 1.65v n at least 1600mhz 8 8 8 24 to be able to overclock the new 980x

I can try to work with the Kingston Ram on the asus rampage iii ex n the 980x for now but as I mentioned I am hopping to get the best 12gb 3x4g available that's why I was wondering if anybody using the ram above on the board already

Once again .. Thanks for sharing

The heatsinks on the kingston are bigger then on the corsair gt's..I would not cut the heatsinks..

Here is some info on this ram

Awesome !! Thanks for that, Low latency with high frequency, problem is, finding a memory from Kingston or even corsair that is 12g ( not 6g)to achieve something close to that gonna be hard, I believe the 12g (3x4g) dominator 1600mhz can run at 8 8 8 24 and easy 1.65v .. Also Kingston produced a hyper x model which is similar to the corsair's ram ... question is, is there any memory can do better that with 3x4g on this board ? From my understanding! It's not possible to see large 12g with high frequency that could at least run at 7-7-7-22 or close so far

Correct me if im wrong, Would love to see more feedback

I’m having some trouble with the memory detection on my system, and I need some help.

I have trawled the net in search of a resolution and I have tried various things listed below.
Unfortunately they have had no effect, so I’m looking for some suggestions, I do however have a feeling that the motherboard could be faulty.

I am also encountering the problem with the CPU temperature reporting only sometimes working.

    Problem
Bios and windows only seeing 2GB of the 3GB of memory.
CPU-Z sees all 3 sticks of memory.
System installed without problem and runs fine even though some memory is not detected
Each memory stick passes memtest OK individually

i haven't encountered this before, i've tried to flash to the latest 1005 bios, but it seems not working too..

    any idea..?

In CPU-Z under the memory tab, which # Slots (out of the 6) are occupied by memory?

I have had this issue of memory detection and it was simply a problem with the way the CPU was seated. The first time I ever put together my R3E rig it fired up perfectly with 6GB ram. I switched coolers and for some reason decided to pull out my 920...D'OH! After putting it back in and turning system on Bios detected a new CPU was installed, and bam only 4088MB showing. I noticed though that in CPU-Z when you're having memory detection problems it shows the memory installed in the first three slots (#1, #2, #3) instead of #1, #3, #5 (for 6GB). As soon as this happened I had a strong feeling it was an improperly seated CPU. Just after finishing putting it all together perfectly (I'm a perfectionist) I had to pull off the cooler again to re-seat the CPU. But afterward all 6136MB were being detected and never had that issue reoccur.

I think you're best bet is to re-seat the CPU. I know, it's a but what are you gonna do..

Have you tried clearing cmos ?
Clear cmos, close your psu with the button (so take the power off your motherboard) wait a bit.. power up, just to be sure clear cmos again and boot..

    Worked for me

Yes. I think I have the problem same as you are. CPU-Z detects my rams in slot (1-2-3 instead of 1-3-5). But, as you said that you have changed the cooling hsf, maybe you have accidentally moved/touched the cpu to an incorrect position..but for my case, i have never change/ replaced the cooling solution. Sometimes, i do get BSOD too..

    @acebaran

i have cleared the cmos( doing all the steps you have mentioned, plus i even took out the batt), but is still doesn't work for me

If that is the case, i'll try to take out the cpu and do some cleaning..

I just dumped my GTX 295 + GTS250 (for PhysX) for a pair of EVGA Superclocked GTX 480s - Im well happy
I thought they were supposed to be noisy? No worse than the GTX295 for sure.
Really enjoying gaming with these - at last a super smooth gaming experience with Just Cause 2 and Crysis Warhead all maxed out. Been playing games like mad all evening - room feels like a furnace!

    Phew glad you remembered

The 480 is a beast of a card. The nickel plated heatpipes sticking out the side of the 480's reminds me of tubular headers on a car :p. What was the stock VID on both of them?

Also how do you like that soundcard?

You are probably using bloomfield I assume. That is the Bloomfield ( especially 920/930 ) wall in the R3E. If you go thru these posts about 95% of everyone here gets similar results.

    Thanks

One card is 1.074 and the other 1.084. They’re running at 725, 1451, 1900 but I have no plans to overclock further - my 850w Corsair HX PSU probably wouldn’t be happy about me pushing them! The original plan was to buy them with the EK water blocks, but I’m not in any rush to watercool them now as they’re not as loud as I was expecting.

The Soundcard is an Asus Xonar D2X which is great - I fully recommend it. Had a Creative X Fi card for about 3 years, and it would suffer from random crackle & pops in XP, Vista and 7, so I gave up with it and grabbed the Xonar and I'm very happy.

I'm very happy with the Rampage board too, its been easy overclock to 4.3Ghz with the 930 so I think I'll be sticking with this setup for quite a few years now.

    Hi

Has anyone set up RAID0 on SATA3 with this motherboard & Crucial C300 64GB drives.
I have been looking around but I am reading conflicting opinions regarding the Marvell controller.
I thought I would ask you good people, as you all have such a vast knowledge of this motherboard & I need educating.
    Thanks in advance.

Ive run C300s on the marvell for a while, ok for gaming but the controller cant keep up with the throughput for big number benches, I ended up with 2 128 gb C300s on the intel and just one C300 64 gb on the marvell as a stand alone non raid boot drive.
using just 1 ssd on the marvell seems to be fine.
other ppl here may give different advice but I have actually tried both !

    cheers and good luck

    Rick
