Soyo SY-P4I875P Dragon 2 Platinum Edition worth it?

My buddy has some hardware and was wanting $325 for the following:

Soyo SY-P4I875P Dragon 2 Platinum Edition (new)
    Soyo SY-P4I Fire DRAGON (used)
    P4 2.0ghz Northie (used)
    Kingston 512mb PC-2100 (used)

I know that the SY-P4I875P isn't the best O/Cing board but it does have alot of options I'm hoping to overclock alittle with it if I bought it. What do you guys think?

I think you will not be happy with it. You can get better OCing boards with just as many features. I would look into Abit or EPoX.

One time I actually was foolish enough to buy a Soyo board, All I can say is it won't happen again.

I'll disagree with most on this.

He said he'll be doing a little O/Cing, and the Soyo should be no problem for that.

I have a Soyo board (Kt333), it's O/C is mild, but it's stability and the fine software bundle it came with is great. I've never regreted buying it.

Look at the software bundle and the various options the board offers. If you're not heavy into benching, then the mid level O/C vs max O/C won't matter as much as having a lot of options and a large software bundle. And if you're into having a nice window and lights set up the silver PCB will look really sharp.

But be sure to be honest with yourself, if the max O/C is what you're really into, you won't be satisfied with a Soyo, so get a Epox, Asus or Abit.

It all depends on what you're after in a system.

I don't base my dislike of Soyo on a lack of OC ability, I base it on HORRIBLE customer Support, extremely poor support on bios fix/revisions, poor stability, and a general blame the other guy for our short comings attitude. I literally emailed Soyo over 100 times in an attempt to get support for a High end board i purchased, not a single response, the board currently resides in my junk box where it will remain until I throw it out. Soyo may make some good products but I will never spend another dime to find out.

    Aaahhhhh,

Those are all good reasons for your position.

Perhaps I've been lucky, but the Soyo I bought worked very well from day one to now. If I've been lucky, then it would appear my luck has been as good as yours was bad.

Sorry to hear your experiance with Soyo sux'd. What board did you have? Mine is the Kt333 ultra (black PCB board).

KT400 Ultra Plat edition, complete waste of almost $200
I've also a couple friends who didn't have very good luck with them, one was some mini ATX, all in one cheapie board, the other had a P4 board, not sure which one it was though. Socket A mini ATX just died one day for no reason, the P4 board was pretty good for a few months then became unstable, he tried pretty much everything including RMA, in the end it was a total loss for him as well. Was a 533 board, not the latest 865/875 based boards though.

I had a Soyo kt333 board (forgot which model as I dumped it immediately) that only liked certain video cards. I gave them another try for my in-laws system and it was the same, only booted with one video card I had and it wasn't stable with it. I sold a GF4 Ti4200 to someone and they thought it was DOA as it would not run in either of his Soyo boards, but when he dropped it in a friends Asus, the GF4 ran great. So to me they obviously have serious compatibility issues with vidoe cards, who knows what other problems they may have. I will never find out as I will never touch one again.
