Fan controller inside HX850

I'm really happy with my high performance HX850, but it has 1 downside:
It's the loudest part of my PC. I don't want to part with it, though, as it's performance is stellar. So I have a question about the fan controller inside this PSU. How is it controlled? Is it based on load or on the internal temperature? The reason I'm asking, is because I might mod the PSU with a silent fan. (I know this will void warranty, but it's worth it for me) I would not like my PSU to overheat, so hopefully the fan is temperature controlled, because if it's load controlled instead, it might feed the fan too little volts to cool it properly at a giving load level.

my 750tx dose the same thing its ether off barely going or full boar there is no 1200-1500 rpm or it dosnt sound like there is with what i assume is a high speed yate 140mm as the review units at launch showed (when i bought mine).

now that i have 3 low speed san aces with the cpu and gpu on liquid the fan is annoying

no, im thinking of sending it for an rma, corsair rmas for loud fans and it should run mid rpm, or finding a reverse direction fan and attaching it to the fan hole and have it run like 800rpm all the time

But the HX850 isn't silent though. I'm running my case fans at 500 RPM, rubber mounted, and the PSU fan is easily the loudest part of my PC when in idle. The HX850 was never designed to be completely silent, unfortunately. It's decently quiet though.

Uhm, yeah... That would get expensive and tiresome fast. I'd rather have it running silent with a low RPM high-quality fan, which should cool it well enough if the PSU ramps up the volts if the temperature increases. That's why I'm wondering if the fan is temperature or load controlled.

Any corsair rep that could answer my question please? I want to buy a Yate Loon 140mm 1000RPM fan to replace the stock Yate Loon 2800RPM fan. Was wondering if the fan controller will spin up the fan faster due to the increased, or if it's load-controlled, which means it might overheat.

You ran your HX850 fanless for several months? At what load level? Surely if you managed to run it fanless for several months, it would be fine with a slightly slower fan for atleast a year.

In case anyone is interested: I just broke the warranty seal and replaced the fan. The air blowing out of the back of the PSU is slightly slower, but not any warmer. Been running fine for 8+ hours running WCG and it's dead silent. Loving it so far!

FYI, the fan speed is thermally controlled. Other than that, I obviously can't give much information on this subject.

Thermally controlled = good but if you try this, I'm sure theres a 2400RPM fan in there for a reason....

2000 RPM fans are a bit more tolerable IMO, you could try one of those. Maybe an 1850RPM GentleTyphoon or something...

The PSU can be ran at 50C without a problem. At full load, the air exiting the PSU is around ~25-27C, so no problem at all. The fan is overkill, but an easy way to improve the life of the PSU, without affecting most people. Not many people have a silent build, which needs to be running 2 meters away from where they are sleeping. And if it dies in 3 years, I wouldn't really care. I can just buy a new one. As long as it's not reaching insane temperatures where it might last only a few months I'm fine. This will probably last 7 years quite easily. I have faith in Corsair's build quality

Still running fine btw, although I've been using my desktop very, very little lately. I've completely switched over to using my laptop.
When Bitcoin mining was decently profitable, I was running 2 5870s and 1 5850 overclocked 24/7 for several weeks on the modded PSU just fine though
