    Planning new WCG Rig

    Hi guys,

I plan to upgrade my PC, which currently consists of a Q6600 @3,2 and 4 GBs of DDR2 RAM.

This is, what I thought it should look like.

    -Phenom X6 1090T http://geizhals.at/deutschland/a517718.html
    -ASUS M4A89GTD Pro/USB3 http://geizhals.at/deutschland/a508036.html
    -4 GB DDR3 G.Skill ECO Kit http://geizhals.at/deutschland/a478969.html

    Cooled by a Megahalems.

I just wanted to know if I did forget anything.

Thanks in Advance & Happy Crunching

Nope, looks fine. Might wanna consider the 1055T for better price/performance - we'll have to wait on final pricing to decide on that though.

Ok, thanks, then it's just 2 more weeks waiting.

Oh and, my Corsair HX 520 should be ok for some overclocking?

I would say yes - unless you plan on running a GTX 480 on GPUGrid or FAH

Nah, I won't do that as i use 2D-programs only. IGP is gonna be fine for me.

But there is another concern which came to my mind. Do you guys know how the Thermalright 120 Ultra Extreme performs in comparison to the Megahalems, as the Megahalems might be too big for CM Centurion 5. So, I thought that I stay away from that risk and just keep the Thermalright. Another option would be the Corsair H50, but I think that's kinda crap, too.

My experience is that they are a pretty close match. Out of the box, the Megahalems is going to be better than the TRUE. With a little sandpaper love you're going to see the TRUE pick up and they'll come out about even (when they're both lapped and the CPU is lapped as well). Although, I wouldn't pass up the Megahalems on size, if it's not going to fit I doubt the TRUE will either. Assuming you want to stick to air and want something slightly smaller, you might look at the Xigmatek Dark Knight as well. TBQH though, pretty much all the top-end air coolers are pretty massive. I've switched over to using the CM Hyper 212+ on several of my builds recently because it's physically much smaller, but still has good performance with modifications (I use 6% silver-bearing solder, braze the gaps between the heatpipes and base, and then lap it smooth on the bottom) in push/pull and tend to fit on MicroATX boards that don't have the space for the TRUE or Megahalems. There's really not much in air that's going match what you can do with a TRUE or Megahalems, and what is there, isn't any smaller.

I'm not really a fan of the H50 or liquid cooling general, but that's just my own prejudice. If size is a limitation and you need better cooling, the H50 might be a good solution for you.
