    Dead PSU's

Not such a good couple of months ....

First to die was a PC P&C 1k SR...no power good signal???

Then Coolermaster 900 UCP .....Plug in tester and standby power only

Today Coolermaster 1100 UCP ....Connect to mains and breaker trips (so 3 rigs off all day) This one might be under warranty...hopes

Had to remove a GPU to be sure but replaced with a zippy emacs 510w that I picked up for £1.00 + postage took me an hour to find enough adaptors to power the HD and graphics

You are running them all with at least surge protection I hope.

Ouch, I very nearly bought a UCP 700w (which did well for the price at JonnyGuru) but now I'll steer clear of the CM range. You're popping PSUs at quite a rate, do you have clean input power?

If you were in the states I'd say send them to me, I want to try to fix one of these things sometime. Already rebuilt the power supply in an LCD monitor I have as my 2nd screen now, I want to go after something more complex next

I doubt the power not being clean, but I only have surge suppression. These have all run for a good while mostly at or above 75% load

I'd take a look at at a line conditioner as Serra ( Xs user) recommended me some years ago ( not a single hitch after I bought that APC bastagge)

Yes, you can (if you have the $$$$$$$$$$$$) get a big enough UPS (or line conditioner if you don't want the battery back up) to cover your whole house. I've worked around systems that can keep the control systems of a whole power station running for several days on backup power.

Old Chap, i looked on craigslist for ya, there is absolutly nothing on your side of the pond i have a apc matrix 5000VA thats been running nonstop at 95% for the last 5 years with no problem.

heres a repsentation of what they are.
    http://cgi.ebay.com/APC-Matrix-5000-...item27b0d4733f

ive looked on ebay.uk for ya, and nothing there. Dont worry, you cant ship it, the PU is 120lbs, the ECU is 90lbs, and the battery packs are 60lbs+
Its not overkill if it works.

Thanks for that. I have seen similar on ebay UK ...guess I'll just keep looking...usually costs though.... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/APC-5000-VA-UP...item27afe95383 and http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/APC-3000-Rackm...item5ad804dc12 and maybe http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/APC-1400-2u-RA...item5d267b7449 show what I would need to pay so maybe one of the first seen for each would be cheapest

Yup get a good UPS, no money better spent for me than a huge battery to keep the line stable for my precious. Nothing like a nice sine wave from 1500va UPS that keeps it crunching 100% for 30 minutes after full blackout
And also, its fun to look at the logs later on, i had 1 pc killed due to my elec company, when i got UPS afterwards i understood what the poor thing had to go through. Spikes all over the place. Not a good sight...

    edit: there, isnt she beautiful?

OC, i know what kind of rigs your running, so the last 2 you linked to wont do it. youll max them out in a heartbeat. imo, the first one is the one you need. its just like the one ive got, except that one is for a rackmount, and mine is a floor one. 520L, that about what $700 us ? thats a fair price, the only thing i dont see on it is the connections for any aux battery packs.
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/APC-Smart-UPS-...item5ad8348404

it looks like the batts come with the usp, but they look like small ones to me, youll only get about 6 min of runtime at full load although considering full load is 5kw, thats not to bad.. lol

if you look on the us ebay.com site, and search for apc matrix, you will see the ones like i have.

the only thing wrong with these are the batteries, it runs at 48V DC so if you need to replace them, your going to need 4 at a time. it can get a bit expensive.. but ive had mine running for 5 yrs now and havent had a problem with the batteries, so they should last a long time....

EDIT, looking back at your main post, for the price of the dead psus, the 700$ for this seems like a good deal.
