Nvidia misses GTX470/480 launch targets

This is by Charlie, but he has been correct about a lot of info on these cards in the past few months:

IT LOOKS LIKE Nvidia's legendary honesty is matched only by its counting skills, at least that is what it looks like after the GTX470 and GTX480 launch numbers leaked. If you believed the 30,000 number, well, it was off by a lot.

Since Nvidia didn't officially give any launch numbers, that is, promise how many GTX470 and GTX480 cards would be available in retail channels at initial release, but just whispered in the ears of the gullible analysts and press, we can't call it a liar. Those people once again just parroted the vague total number they were told without thinking or doing any research. It seems a 'scoop' is worth more than the truth to some. In the end, yesterday's Nvidia analyst day had the 30K number bandied about with abandon, even though it wasn't close to the truth.

Short story, the cards, both combined, worldwide, for all launch partners is less than 8,000 units in the first week. Yes, within spitting distance of one quarter of the leaked but not 'promised' number. Let me repeat that, less than 8,000 units. The number we have been hearing for months is in fact true.

What precious little inventory there is at launch will be shifted to several high profile etailers and retailers to make it appear as though there is actual stock available. There isn't. All the companies that ordered thousands will never see them, unless they happen to be called Newegg.

Two major AIBs have allocated less than 100 cards each for Europe - not per country, but for Europe as a whole. If there are only five launch partners, that is only 1,600 cards, GTX470 and GTX480 combined, each, for the world. That isn't enough to pay for the printing of the boxes.

NVIDIA IS TWISTING the arms of e-tailers over GTX480s, forcing them to clean out the warehouses of old inventory if they want the new cards. If you want any allocations of the GTX470 or GTX480, be prepared to buy lots of low end cards.

The deal goes like this. If you want any GF100 based cards, you get them in bundles of 10 GTX470s and 10 GTX480s. For each of the bundles, you have to buy 20 G210s, 20 GT220s, 20 GT240s and 20 GTS250s. So basically you have to buy 80 old, crap parts to be eligible to receive just 20 of the newer and supposedly 'good' ones

I don't think the 100 per AIB for Europe figure is correct. I have been in touch with some Turkish retailers and they told me about 100 cards per AIB will enter Turkey in April, and more in the coming months. While this is not a big figure at all (Turkey is a big GPU market, bigger than most EU countries) it's far away from what Charlie says.

I do not understand that anybody cares to listen to Charlie.
Most of what he says is a lie, and he is only trying to harm nVidia as much as possible, it is his whole mission, he never wrote a nice word about them.

I've yet to find a game that I cant run.

Better than anything that Nvidia sell for the same price, which is why I bought them. Ive had a Gefore 2 MX, Geforce 3, and Geforce 6800 SLI setups too, since then ATI have just better cards for the money IMO.

Even tough Turkey has some European soil. When looked in big picture, Turkey is not in Europe.

That 100 cards for europe is confirmed from atleast one aib by www.muropaketti.com. And retailers know . They can always say they get lots, actual deliverd amount is another case. And as stated earlier, Turkey is not in Europe. Their cards should not count against allocated card count for Europe.

i can confirm that 1 UK e- retailer alone will have 50 + 50 initial stock on the 12th april, thats not counting OCUK and Dabs here in the UK (you do the math)

Amazingly, I think Charlie bashers are worse than Charlie himself. Now, there's a good chance that Charlie if full of , but some of his bashers definitely are!

-Charlie claimed that two major AIB's had less than 100 each for the whole of Europe, he didn't claim that there were less than 100 cards total for all AIBs for the whole of Europe as it seems like you are implying.

-April 12th is two weeks since fermi launched, Charlie's claim is for the FIRST week. May 6th is *definitely* not in the first week that Fermi launched so what the heck is your point?
