ok, i have recieved my gfx, and set everything up.

but i cant get it to post. i have tried with 1 cpu and 4 cpu, (different ones), i have tried ram in all dimm0+1, in dimm0+1 on cpu 1 and 2 only and so on.

what are the most basic setup you can have with this board and still get post ? 1 cpu, 1 stick of ram ? and where should that be located ?

i used a pcie ati 5450 passive, brand new, i might have to test it in another machine to rule it out.

remember this board i have is from ebay, not here

Most basic I believe is cpu_0 and all four dimms of dimm_0

Did you manage to get a UK shipping estimate for however many boards are likely to be destined here?

I'm surprised to have 16, people scatter when it is time to pay the bill.

The below memory modules are available to me at a very reasonable price.

I'm unsure as to what type of memory is compatible (FB/Registered).

    Code:
    Vendor	Manufacturer	Description Type
    Sun	Micron 2x1GB 2Rx8 PC2-5300F-555-11-A1	Fully Buffered
    Sun	Samsung 2x1GB 2Rx8 PC2-5300G-555-11-A0	Fully Buffered
    IBM	Samsung 2x1GB 1Rx4 PC2-5300P-555-12-H3	ECC Registered
    I can't decider whether to:

Buy 8 sticks for 1 motherboard.
Buy 16 sticks for 1 motherboard.
Buy 16 sticks for 2 motherboards.

If I think about it, I don't really need 2, but this is XS after all, and I'm conscious that this may be the only chance I ever have to buy the boards without having to re-mortgage my house.

    Thank you all in advance.

Just buy 8... Or hell, buy 4, one per processor. You will be fine. So long the total amount of all rams are around 4-6Gb, you will be ok. There is that screenshot right here on this thread which shows a 16-core setup on F@H using only 500Mb of ram.

    EDIT:

did you notice? only 560 mb with all sixteen crunching, woulda guess way more than that..
Guy has 4Gb total. You'll be fine with 4Gb.

    Hello;

    Pretty configuration !!! 16Cores... Incredible ^^.
I have one of this motherboard but i cant see realy the pinouts of PSU. She need only 16x 12V + 16x Gnd ? no 3.3 no 5v... etc ?

    Thank you !

Are there any people in the UK wanting to buy some 8347s for $27 each?

Shipping is $28 per order, so it would be cheaper to buy together and forward once they've arrived in this country.

Something I thought was interesting: one of these quad setups costs as much two sossman builds, but it will put out twice as many points as those two sossmans. Oddball form factor and higher watts/heat being the drawbacks, the point difference is just too big to ignore in my opinion.

With prices of $85 for motherboard, $27 for CPUs and $20 per 2x1GB of memory, and the PSU I'm looking at costing $100, I'm still undecided as to whether or not to get 8 or 16 DIMMs for a system cost of $440 or $520 respectively.

You only need 4 for a dedicated cruncher, so that'd depend on what else you had in mind for the setup to be doing.

That's what I'm thinking... I'm building this semi-slowly so I'll keep my eyes open for the fastest supported chips I can get at the best reasonable price.
