Cost of CPUs/mem. and recent purchases would probably make me consider only one, but I'd be down if you could organize a group buy

Hard to tell how many cos I would need to know the expected output from say 8356's or whatever is cheap (hope someone can chip in here) but certainly one just to say I gotta 4p ...price ....lets say based on those boards with everyone trying to get things working I'd say around $100 would be a deal...maybe more if you are talking about a more standard type.

We might want to try the same on cpu's and memory...see what we can find if we buy bulk

Very tight but will try as hard as possible to make it real. Does it include shipping? If so that would be cheapear than ever the board has been seen so I would be telling you in that case that it won't be ( sadly) be possible

How about taking a look at jcool's post about it? He has provided lotsa info about output ( PDD, power consumption from the wall, pricing for the parts he got ).

    So we already have 10 ( artemmx 2,Bail_w x 1, OldChap x 1, me x2, Jaws x1, Fhqwhgads6680 x 3, a friend of mine x 1).

Some have been either requested via PM (and reflect the max each user would be willing to get if his conditions are met). this does not mean the user is committing to buy, it's just ballpark number)

Duh, you know I am down! If we can do these for say.... $100 shipped max, ($75 would be amazing if possible!) I would be down for 2-3 depending on final price. if $75... hell maybe even 4... I can populate these as I go..

Also, I would be willing to pay more for the board if it is one that will support istanbul but wouldn't be able to get as many...

And yes, A bulk buy on proc's would be great aswell... With these things going so cheap on ebay right now these are a steal for PPD vs $ and if we could get them even lower.... Lets just say christmas in april would be amazing

Is it a coincidence that your wifes pc is called Uranus?

how about 65-70 bucks plus shipping? this might ( guessing please don't quote me) possible if we team up and buy a nice number ( I guess 50 would be a nice number to make the seller lower the price to fit our needs)

Dude, then I count you as you would go for 4 boards ( as we are aiming to fit our budgets and yours is very reasonable )

    Interested folks and their amounts:

    artemmx x 2
    Bail_w x 1
    OldChap x 1
    me x 2
    Jaws x 1
    Fhqwhgads6680 x 4
    a friend of mine x 1

Will update requirements of budget from each user ( requirements, price, location of buyer), etc

What';s that guys? The competition server just went down? No problem - chuck it on my PC and I'll still have enough power to run it along with my copy of the game and take part!

But I agree with others - memory and cpus would need to come into the equation

IIRC RAM could be had for 25 bucks a gig ( that's the cheapest and not buying in bulk). About cpu: I think the crappiest 4 core opty was round that same value ( 25 bucks).

    So (at least):

    100 bucks for cpus ( 4x4)
    100 bucks for memo's ( 4 gigs ecc)
VGA:have no idea of how much it would cost.

of course we can. helpers would be appreciated as I do not know almost anything about ram and VGA ( price specs in order to deal a bulk buy.

back in the day File not found made a list of necessary things to make it work :

    - 4x ecc reg ddr2 sticks inserted in CPU0_DIMM1~4
    - 4 x 8346HE, 8356 CPU (that we know so far, my guess is newer won't work)
    - Any single-slot backplate video card, or any dual-slot card with the end cut off (the second slot is over the power button, removing the power buttons caps should work too) (see Pic1 below to see clearance)
    - sata dvd drive connected to SATA20 OR usb boot "acpi" drive.
    - sata hard drive connected anywhere else.
    - Power supply with a few 8-pins EPS or pcie connectors, or adapters (you need a total of to fill 8x2 and 7x2 pin)
    - Another motherboard to connect ATX to boot (or you can make contact with the power supply's ON pin)
    - OS with 16-core support. Ubuntu 9.10 AMD64 for example.

I am tempted to have 4 boards if we can stress the seller to the price we think it's ok. My mom is traveling to NYC with my sis at the end of may so I am already buying an extra luggage for her to carry these monsters

That board has an odd layout, is it for a proprietary case of some kind? I guess this would be ok open, but I would prefer to put these into case to put into my rack.. not a deal killer... anyknow know what kind of case this would need?
