The rest is down to changes the internal bus I/O stages on the more integrated platforms and their associated current limits (not all of those are shown publicly by Intel). The only glaring omission from the current white papers is the VTT load line tolerance for the Lynn/Clark series of CPUs (although this would have been provided to sub-vendors).
Kinda makes you wonder about the 1156 boards burning up.

All along the watchtower the watchmen watch the eternal return.

Intel in Australia will refuse warranty if you tell them you ran 1.65vdimm on your RAM

    Confused

And that's something Intel most certainly wants to avoid, for super-dupper obvious reasons.
I'm somewhat confused. AMD doesn't have the same issues as Intel with regards to Vdimm and VTT...and the Core I7 was the first Intel CPU to have an integrated memory controller. Prior to the Core I7, DDR2 was used.

DDR2 per the JEDEC spec is 1.8v, with a maximum recommended voltage of 1.9v. JEDEC also gives a spec that memory modules must be able to withstand 2.3v without permanent damage, but they are not required to function at that level.

DDR3 per the JEDEC spec is 1.5v, with a maximum recommended voltage of 1.575v. JEDEC also gives a spec that memory modules must be able to withstand 1.975v without permanent damage, but they are not required to function at that level.

AMD's first official DDR3 support began Feb 2009 with the release of the AM3 Socket, while Intel released the first DDR3 support in Nov 2008 with the Core i7. Yes, Intel was technically first, and I'm not trying to start another damn AMD/Intel flamewar.

So, I'm confused. Are you mistakenly comparing DDR2 voltages to DDR3 voltages, AMD to Intel, or what?

Actually, they're asking you to use the product only as it was intended. Is that really too much to ask?

Perhaps you should read this thread "Promotion of fraudulent RMAs on XS"

Of course, I do see your smiley, so I hope your comment is only tongue-in-cheek.

I like to think we all here at XS know the game.... You Gotta Pay To Play !
