A bit oldies Athlon 3000+ bench, my PC number 3

Yesterday i played with my oldest computers, Athlon 3000+ Venice s.754
default clock is 2000 MHz, board GA-K8NE, PSU some noname 400W, saphire radeon x1950pro 256MB. So, how good is this "granfather" with comparsion example x4 955/965? See it below. And all is with max AIR OC, ambients 22C.

for fun Cinebench R11.5 (not max CPU OC, only for fun)

Cinebench R10, 2202MHz

wprime 32M at 2243 MHz

wprime 1024M at 2202MHz

Now some 3D...

for fun Stalker bench

and hard work 3D marks
3D 2005 my record

3D2005 max CPU clock at 2243MHz

3D 2006 2243MHz

How about superpi?

superpi 32M at 2243 MHz, i could read a book

superpi 1M was at 2325 MHz!

but record with superpitweaker...

Vcore with OC was 1.45V, max validation is 2338.5 MHz

PS:I like this my old PC. Was my first good new PC for some years ago. For old games, watching movies, internet etc its OK, think, good in de/compression winrar (about 450KB/s). And here i started my lifelong loyalty AMD.

umm I am a bit surprised too. I still have my s939 Venice 1.8ghz stock -> 2.4ghz with stock voltage? And its on a crap Foxconn nvidia 6150 chipset. It'll even boot to 2.7ghz but its not stable unless I juice it up.

It works perfectly fine for my nieces.

my venice is e6 revision too. iirc, most ive seen did at least 2.4ghz on stock voltage and 2.7ghz on moderate and around 3.0ghz with water or big air cooling.

Just put my "classic" 754 for a spin under w7 x32, with all the background stuff running:

wprime 32M 70.98s (can't compare to previous results)
spi 1M 39.8s (wtf!?)
cinebench 11.5 0.53pts (lol!)

Under xp 32 it was doing 1M in 32.1s (2-2-2-5-7-14), 33.5s with current more relaxed timings (2-2-2-8-10-16) to keep sticks safe for more years only under 2.9V. That 39s result is worse than stock cpu on xp! I guess all other scores will be botchered on w7 for such dated system with only 1GB.

Under the bonnet is a DFI 754 nf3250gb, 13nm hammer cg 3700+ (with xp-90c and delta efb low speed) at 2.6 1.55v (217x12), ht 3x, ocz gold pc3500 bh5s at 217 2-2-2-8-10-16 1T, 6800gt@ultra with a TR V1, enermax fma 535W, all on a Lian li PC-7 case. It's been running like that for the last 5-6 years, with minor changes on other stuff.

Killing some processes I got it to 36.5s, which sounds way bit better albeit slow. Still, a 3s loss from XP to w7 seems plausible to me on an old single core machine.
Settings are those on the last paragraph, a 3700+ hammer at 12x217, with bh5 1:1 at 2-2-2-8 1t, ht 3x.

mm according to that, cpu voltage should be at 1.40v. it could be the PSU as well or the memory divider you are using. Also, I noticed your running 2T instead of 1T, any particular reason?

anyway, good to see people are still hanging on to oldies =). the athlon 64 was my first complete build as well.

I'd guess running 3 sticks on a 754 with decent speed and fast timings can be quite hard : )

ahh thanks alley, didnt see he was running 1.5gb, i just saw single and just "ass-u-me-d" it was 1 stick

op, maybe try 1 stick or dual channel and see what the max cpu speed is. could be interesting to see. hopefully maybe hit at least 2.4ghz.

I benched my old system quite some time ago and got decent numbers out of it.

Socket A Sempron 3000+
Epox 8RDA3+
2GB (or 2,5GB) DDR400 (mixed brands)

HD 3850 AGP

PiFast 57.39
http://hwbot.org/community/submissio...n_xp_57.39_sec

CPU-Z 2616MHz
http://hwbot.org/community/submissio...on_xp_2616_mhz

wPrime 32M 1min 7,83s
http://hwbot.org/community/submissio...min_7sec_830ms

I have an Athlon 3000+ AQXEA 0341VPMW, and I will test this one too, at some point.
Should get better memory, but no idea where. Even a normal 1GB DDR 400 stick costs over 50€ at the moment.

I played yesterday with my Venice 3000+. I know it's good and can do at least 3000, but the max stable FSB of my board is about 322, so it's limiting me.
The "problem" is that at that FSB I can't tweak the ram best, so I have 2 variants - slow ram and fast cpu, or fast ram, but lower frequency of the cpu.

Here's validation, with higher fsb the board "dies" - 2915MHz

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1125427

And some benches at 2889MHz

SuperPi 1M - http://hwbot.org/community/submissio...39_30sec_594ms
wPrime 32M - http://hwbot.org/community/submissio...39_59sec_125ms
Aquamark - http://hwbot.org/community/submissio...50_93477_marks together with non-modded Sapphire HD 4650@810/835

It could be better with optimizations, but it was just for fun, not very serious

Everything on standard cooling, cpu with box cooler
Actually I was bored while waiting for some parts from Germany for my water cooling and meanwhile I'm using the good old PC.

1.4 to 1.5 is fine. do u have a good cooler? atleast try for 2.6ghz (289 x 9 or 260 x 10 ) try the 166 divider and 1t ram timing. 1t and 2t is a result of the imc, not the ram sticks ( generally if the imc can take 1t the ram is fine )

Some of the best single cores were 754 only at their day : ).
Out of the older 130nm, most times only the top end 3700+ cg (2.4 1mb) could stand the 2.8 range with some luck (most would top at 2.7). But unlike 939, using 2 sticks at high freqs was more strenuous for the imc, so an high multiplier for BH sticks was a better bet.
A bit latter 90nm DTR Newarks as the 4000+ (2.6 1mb) could attack the 3.0 range as the best 939s, but memory compatibility for 1GB sticks was a bit on the touchy side. These became the most prized models.
In the last days a few desktop Venices 90nm like yours came out, and most would behave as any 939.

For MBs, I've had two DFI UT NF3 250Gb (sold one recently) which were probably the favorite on these setups (specially for "decent" Newark support, which was prohibited by AMD).

Athlons are really tricky...they have a 1-2 Mhz border between complete instability (not booting) or passing prime95 for 12 hours. :P

In my sig I've got an AM2 F3 5600+, it's still sitting around here somewhere. This summer I'll try to bench that system again.
