    Drunken Monkey part 5

My main gaming system,The Drunken Monkey, is going to be tore down, and re-done.. lol for the 5th time.

So I have been gathering a few parts over the last few months, and I think it is time to start pre-assembling what I can, before I tear it apart. This will be a performance build first, beautifications not so much. lol It will not be nearly as beautiful as most of the incredible builds posted here..

I am waiting on some hardware to be released, and a box from Mountain Mods that should be here in 2 weeks, so I can begin the tear down.

I have also re-done the overclock, lowered it to 4.5Ghz HT on, but raised the RAM to 2150Mhz CAS 8 timings, seems so far to average a bit better performance in the games I have tested... minimal, but slightly better. lol It has passed 24 hours of Prime95, and I recorded the ambient temps best I could, so I can compare the new watercooling setup, hope to see a couple degrees lower temps.. hopefully.

so here is a pic of the parts I have pulled from the parts storage bins, and placed them onto the build table, the pre-pre re-do. lol

First mod, I love PC Power & Cooling power supplies, but the 1000 watt and especially the 1200 watt version are super loud, so I am going to quiet down the 1200watt one and, hopefully improve temps on it..
So I cut a hole on top to mount a 120mm fan, then replace the ultra loud 80mm fan with a much quieter fan, the one in the pic is not the one for the final product, just for mock up use.

so now to do some thermal tests, to make sure this is going to work. lol and if it does, sand and paint this ugly contraption.,

Well testing on the power supply seems like a success, loaded it up pretty heavy 2 overclocked GTX 295's and a 4.6Ghz 920 + a crap load of fans+accessories, and the temps are a tad better, and silent.. very happy!
here is radiator #1.. lol just 4 more to go...

    one is a quad.. lol
just have to wait and see. a hint, all radiators will be intaking air, there will be 13 120mm yate loon medium speed fans exhausting air, plus the little bit from the power supply. should balance out well., and no stacking of radiators
One radiator is going into another build I think, so 4 triples and a quad, in this build.. maybe.. matters how many GTX 480's go inside.

Dang I didn't know they sold triple rads and GT fans in bulk packs at costco...!
Haha this looks absolutely insane, though I really have no idea how much of that cooling you will really use, unless you have a voltmodded TRI SLI GTX480 setup or something :P

Hey for all those stock Intel heatsinks, are you gonna core out the centers, glue them together, and make a reserator type thing out of them??
haha that's an idea I was thinking of when I looked at all the damn Intel heatsinks I have laying around.

Oh one more thing, could you tell me where you got your rolls of sleeving from, and what size you are using for your fans? thanks!

before I was shut down from the boss, this build was going to be based on the Evga dual xeon board, and 3 GTX 480's.... so with dual mosfets and CPU's, and 3 Fermi's, and slow fans, it would need a lot of radiators... but I have had my budget "trimmed" lol
The Intel heat sinks, was a bust, the plan was to drill holes in the bottom of shot glasses, and plug the open ends with acrylic, with a hole in it, between each heat sink... so like 7 shot glasses with a heat sink between each one, a tower of drunken coolness... but it was a total wreck, the weight was too much, without support bars/rods.... so they are out for now.

My picture taking skills are bad, and it is night here, with poor lighting, but the grills go crazy on camera? maybe some natural light.. lol looks horrible in this pic, the only grill that looks like it does in person is the bottom center one..

Somehow those round mesh dust filters don't look good to me :/
I wonder how some rectangular would look. Or you'll have some grill covering those up later (at least 4 scewhole 'legs')?

The round ugly mesh filter screens are staying. lol The drunken Monkey is not about looks, lol obviously.

I had some "prettier" filters on there before, but they were more restrictive, and filtered less dust.

    couple new pics.

first up, the skinny fans, the lower level, needed two thin fans because normal fans hit the radiators, here is a pic with a fat fan. lol

the skinny fans seem to move a decent amount of air for a case fan at 12v but thy don't seem to scale very well as the voltage is dropped, bummer, but they fit, and are silent at 5v, just wished they moved a touch more air.

The power supply retention system seemed ok on the last build, but this power supply is so long and heavy, I thought I would add a little bracket to make the motherboard tray bracket, and the power supply very solid.

I mounted one reservoir, the other is not mounted solid yet, the GPU's won't be here till Thursday, then I can mount the second one.
The silver inside the reservoirs moves a lot more than I expected, pretty violent inside there. lol
so just need the GPU's and then wire it up, and clean this thing, and try to get some decent pics...
