Got parts, surprised by the MCR-220

I really never noticed in the pics just how tiny this thing is. Hell, I can see through it. Should be easy to fit in the case, but now I'm thinking keeping the Swiftech but adding a heater core I own out the back.

I have this heater core...


Would need a lot of clean-up and a box, for sure, but the size gives me confidence. 200mm square and would perfectly match this Antec fan:

Any thoughts? MCP655, 1/2" ID everywhere, Apogee GTZ, GPU TBD.

From the looks of the pic, the only thing I would be concerned with is the rust along the inside of the barb. You definitely don't want to put something into your waterloop that is going to be rusting. This will definitely cause problems over a period of time. If anyting you may want to consider getting another 120 or just buying a 220 or bigger rad. Hope this helps!!

Ya, it's yellow brass, just needs a good cleaning out It's 48 years old... would have to be well flushed and tested.

Looks like you could use 2 MCR 220s in the space of the heatercore. Also - what are you trying to cool and what fans are you using? Space limitations in your case?

I'm always surprised by how small WC components are....I just got in some tube reservoir parts and it was like 1/2 the size I imagined it (and I configured it all to be a very precise size, so I should have known how big it would be).

Don't use that heater-core. It looks like it popped a long time ago. I would not trust that old thing to keep your loop clean that is for sure.

I'll experiment with the heater core at some point later. For now everything is together and leak testing. It's just a mildly overclocked E8400 for now, 3.6Ghz and stock voltage. I'm sure the Swiftech rad will be fine, and we'll have to see how much improvement I got over the Xigmatek I had in there.

Backplate for the Xig and the Apogee are identical btw. Makes for an easier upgrade.

It's a Silverstone TJ09 and I got the Silverstone radiator brackets. Since I could slide the MB tray out of the case I did and have the Apogee hanging in place by wires for the leak test... but I'm fairly confident at this point. I was careful to get the right torque on the barbs and clips.

MCR220 will handle that just fine dude. Should get some super low temps .

Oh please, I beg you, don't risk your loop with that! Its look like it have been in the Wastelands for years. Just stay with the Swifty and you will be perfectly fine.

Yep, the little thin rad does a fine job. I gained 9C under prime95, went from +34C with air to +25C with water.

200mm square would make it perfect for an antec top case fan.

Also the normal antec alu radiator is also 200mm.

Problem with heatercores is well.. its a heatercore which means a ton of work is needed to get it working.
