maybe i should return this case and get a new one. what would you guys get? HAF932, Antec 1200, Antec 900, etc. which case out there under $200 would provide the best cooling?

Antec 900/902 for air cooling, no contest (for me) - I replaced all the stock fans in my case (now sold) with Xilence redwings and the case was both silent and extremely cool.

Drawback with this case is that it isn't particularly roomy, nor does it come with cable management potential, but for cooling IMHO there isn't better - that 20cm top fan moves an insane amount of air.

    With alphacool LCD display...drool

Stay away from antec 900/1200 cases IMO. If you want something classy with decent cooling, look at the Lian-Li Lancool K58W or K62W. Good size, roomy, excellent cable management, very good HD mounting, and well ventilated. Also all 140mm fan spots do not have the dumb honey comb grills so airflow is better and no noise is generated.

A case is not as important as proper fan placement, cable management and proper fan CFM for desired overclocking, all things that can be altered with any case.

I have the NZXT Beta Evo (had it for four days now) - cheap as chips for a gaming case and I'd say about as good as my Antec 900 for cooling and much better ergonomically. If you are on a budget definitely consider getting it and pack it full of fans: four 12cm, two 14cm. An especially nice touch with this case is that the PSU faces downwards so the PSU fan doesn't interfere with case airflow.

ok guys, returned my Cosmos 1000, returned the blue led case fans and bought the HAF 932. i was fed up of playing around with the case.
i just finished installing all the hardware and cable mgmt. i must say the cable mgmt potential is a bit better than the Cosmos.
anyway, i am currently running everything stock. my idle temps are max 37C, i also ran prime95 and my temps were max 62C. ambient room temp is 74F or 23.5C. these temps are too high aren't they?
i forgot to mention that i am now using the arctic silver 5 thermal compound where before i was using the noctua nt-h1 that came with the NH-U12P Cooler.

i wonder if there is something going on with my Noctua NH-U12P. either there is something wrong with it, which i can't imagine or i am not applying the TIM properly or maybe something else. please help!

Those temps are much better. 35-62? Are you running at stock speed or have you kept your overclock from before? Because those numbers are great compared to your original post.

Yes, I am running at stock. I will attempt 3600MHz next.

just attempted 3800MHz and my temps went sky high. idle 52C max and load 100C+
this is insane. i will try to manually set my voltages. i have them on auto now. turbov is showing the following voltages: cpu- 1.425, dram- 1.66 and qpi 1.375

do you really need 1.425vcore for only 3800mhz? you should be able to do that at around 1.25-1.3 vcore I believe, how fast are your heatsink fans spinning?

If you have them running off of 5v its not too surprising

Insanely high voltage explains the insanely high temps..at least partly. I leave my CPU at default vcore (1.23 in bios) for 3.7GHz so set a reasonable value, 1.25-1.3 as Levish suggested. Even at a respectable 1.28v load my temps are 75C load, so I'd hate to think what 1.425 would do to my CPU...

ok just dropped my voltages to the following:
    cpu- 1.225
    dram- 1.64
    qpi 1.25

temps that i am observing now are idle 39C and load 75C w/ prime95 ( ambient room temp 20.5C or 69F ). i get 81C load temps when ambient room temp is 23.5C or 74F.
i only ran p95 for 30 min just to make sure temps would not go too high.

which ones are the 5V? i have the 2 noctua fans on the nh-u12p connected to the cpu_fan connector. all of the other fans in the HAF 932 are connected to the MB chassis_fan connectors.

i also have a scythe kaze KS01-BK fan controller that is in one of my 5.25" bays but not connected yet. any benefit in using them?

should i return the noctua nh-12p se2 and get the Venomous-X? would that improve my temps? btw, does it come with fans or do we need to buy them seperately?

if the fans are plugged into red thats 5v, yellow is 12v (full speed), this refers to if you were plugging them into a molex. If you are plugging them into a 3 pin motherboard header check bios and see if you have any fan speed control set to on and set them to 100% if so.

funny thing. in turbov i was able to set the vcore to 1.175 and run it stable overnight w/ p95. but when i rebooted, of course, it reverted to the previous oc settings i had. when i went back in the bios to set the 1.175v and rebooted i got an overclock failed error. i had to go back in to set the voltage to the next voltage up from 1.175v (1.18125v). this time the system rebooted and seems to be working fine but i haven't run prime95 yet.

my main concern i guess is, why is it that my temps at higher voltages is higher than other ppl with the nh-u12p se2? why do i need to turn my voltage down in order to have respectable temps?

just curious, what are your temps guys?

I did have similar issues with my silverstone tj-09 setup. Its the top fans for me. If you put them as intake instead of exhaust the cpu temps drop alot more. The rear exhaust works hard but so the any vent in this positive pressure setup. If i'm not wrong the top r4 are sleeve bearing and in that horizontal position its gonna die off sooner or later, pretty useless too. Its trying to push air out the top mesh with its slow static pressure and in horizontal position. Its just being blocked and circulating in the casing.

    Am I being whooshed?
Higher volts will pretty much always give you higher temps.
You are pushing through more wattage that needs to be dissipated.

My temps at 4Ghz i7-920 and 1.325vcore with a IFX-14 and 3x 1000 rpm fans, loads around 65c on the highest core (with prime95) with ~65-70F ambients

i know that higher voltages means higher temps. that was not what i meant. what i meant was why is it that some people have lower temps at the same voltage settings as me? cpu's are all different i guess. crapshoot

levish, your temps are phenomenal. i wish i could get temps like that

A lapped IFX-14 with three fans is within a degree or two of pretty much any of the best aircoolers. Of course I bear the scars of trying to mount it and fans into a fairly cramped case x_X

I believe the reason for my great temps is the Fortress 2 case has 3x 180mm intake fans pushing fresh air into the case at a prodigious rate.

Don't be overly concerned with temperatures imo, there is no difference in my system with the IFX-14 or the other cooler that was over 20c hotter under load save maybe 50 or so mhz of overclockability which at 3.6-4Ghz amounts to nearly nothing at all in practice.
