So, nVidia, failed as much as ATi did with R600. MR. WhoopAss-can-opener has a lot of homeworks to do.

What is your reasoning here? Not only was R600 6 months late and power hungry, but it was significantly outperformed by the competition, and it was not even on the charts once AA was enabled.

That isn't the case at all for the 480.

Were we looking at the same reviews? Also, the 5850 is $50-70 cheaper than the GTX470 and also OC's past 5870 speeds

as for the drivers used i think the fermi is on 197's and 10.2 so like i said
cheaper card then the 5870 and just as fast.
and i guess a 5850 is faster when clocked then a stock 5870??? i think no?

Yeap, there are images missing. But, from what those which are not missing we can imagine around 15% in average lead over 5870. That's pathetic for a chip with 50% more transistors, consuming approx 25% more energy and which will arrive 7~8 months latter.

25%? It's consuming 155W more than 5870! If they loaded with games (and not, say, furmark) that's about twice as much!

One thing is certain, Fermi and Furmark dont get along. Over a 100c, scares me just looking at it but on the upside the overclock achived wasnt too bad. Im guessing no voltage tweaking on these.

wait, they are using forceware drivers that aren't out yet?

same with ATI cards for the launch, with beta drivers based on upcoming drivers
in this case i think the geforce drivers used with fermi will be out at same time

50% more transistors, huge die, 6 months late, around TWICE the power consumption as HD5870, 93 degree load temps.... it's hardly faster, even losing in Crysis. ATI can beat this with an overclocked 2GB card, and it would be foolish of them not to release a 5890 soon.

Hate to say it, but looks like Charlie was right -- and 5870 wasn't even as big a leap as people thought from the specs it would be.

Yay revisionist history. After 1/2 drivers, faster in some DX9 titles, AA makes it >GTS but <GTX, and slower in DX10. It didn't even use much more power, just 20W MORE.

But looking from your roots I wouldn't expect any more of your posts

What comes to me, as a customer, I think I'll buy the 2nd revision of Fermi, aka GTX480+ with higher clocks and 512 SPs. Meanwhile I hope that some decent DX11 titles will appear and I'll have a reason to upgrade my 5870.

Taking into consideration that ATI won't be lowering prices soon(hopefully they change their mind), then wait for the "games" and some cheaper cards.
Sad to say, it looks like Fermi+ should be the key for much cheaper DX11 cards.

From now on, I'll scarcely look for another Fermi review, wake me up when some magical forceware arrives.

i hope it does not take nv to get good drivers out ,it took ati 3 months for the flagship card

seems to hate higher resolutions, and really loses a lot compared to the 5870 when dx11 is added in dirt 2.
