it does seem to work almost 25.000 points
Nice! Is that per day for the GTX280 in your sig? What settings ? Long WUs? Clocks on the 280? Are you in a cool clime? Moar info pls!
OK yeah, I'm idle on this project right now...but that don't mean I'm not hungry for some info on the new guy
IMO you've chosen the most relevant BOINC-based GPU project available today. Not dissing the chess/galaxies/primes/etc guys, but this is the project that naturally flows out of WCG (IMO)...cure diseases!
i'm running the card on stock atm
Gpu 700 mhz
Gpu mem 1150 mhz
Gpu shader 1400 mhz
1024 MB GDDR3
and for some reason gpu-z says fan speed 40%... but its watercooled LOL so no fan at all :P
Never OCed a GPU before... last time i tryed (4 years ago) on a AGP card...i fried the card :P
i'm fixxing a second gtx 280 so i'll put them in SLI, is it better for crunching to put it in SLI or just 2 videocards?
Hi ya there FaYT - leave it as a second stand alone card ... don't SLI.
By changing your GPUGrid preferences to only get the "Long" tasks ... they get better points and also a better quick return multiplier which will up your scores quite a bit
I'll be honest, I have not read this entire thread.
Having trouble getting work (new account).
Must I tick the tick box "allow all users on this computer to control BOINC" when installing BOINC???
This is the only item I deviated from in the first post's instructions.
*bump* Must I tick the tick box "allow all users on this computer to control BOINC" when installing BOINC in order to get GPUGRID to work correctly in boinc with WCG?
Ok, thanks man.
I keep getting "Scheduler request failed: Error 403".
Anyone know how to fix this?
I've never had that error before... try a manual update of the project?
That's when I get the error, at manual update.
This specific computer has yet to receive one work unit.
Can you post up the first 20 or so lines of your event log?
sure....tomorrow morning....the pc is not currently at my house
I'm an idiot....should have looked here myself in the first place. The computer has not yet had a gpugrid ID assigned yet. This is probably the problem. However, I have no clue how to fix it. See event log.

Have you tried to detach from GPUGrid and then attach again?
There is no need to disable networking when the computer is in use (unless you are uploading and downloading huge amounts of data).
Make sure you have Leave Applications in Memory (LAIM) selected. - Won't influencing attaching to GPUGrid, but will help when you are attached and with WCG's CEP2 tasks.
and yes it could be Firewall related - "it might be useful to create a firewall exception or turn off the antivirus package while trying to attach."

Please refer to the most recent log here. This is immediately after a detach/re-attach, manual project update, I unticked the box dealing with not running while in use so it will run when I'm using the computer. I have to tick this again though, at some point, this is my work computer that I use to do work. I'm unaware of seperate disable networking while in use, I thought it disabled boinc in general (calculations and networking) while the comp. is in use. I ticked the leave apps. in memory box. I have no control over the firewall....yet. That is controlled by the network administrator. I'm working on that though....sorta'.

Did you install Boinc as a service?
GPUGrid cannot work if Boinc is installed as a service.
If so (see first post in this thread), close Boinc, uninstall Boinc and reinstall making sure to not select run as a service. Don't use the screen saver either.
Last edited by skgiven; 10-19-2011 at 09:32 AM.
Originally, boinc was installed as a service.
Before ever trying to start grid, I uninstalled boinc. Then reinstalled, not as a service. I've never used the screensaver.
Maybe I should have boinc not get any new tasks, let it finish the current ones, and do a "clean" install? Deleting all traces of the current client? I probably shouldn't change the name of the pc though.
Thanks.
Might be worth a go; I know it does not say Running as a daemon, but perhaps there is some legacy setting left over from the first Boinc installation (maybe one of WCG's Boinc versions, in which running as a daemon is default). If that's the case then you would need to remove all traces of Boinc. Can you remember what version was last installed and from where you got it? This thread might help,
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/fo...ffset,0#331233
The only alternatives I can think of that might explain this are, you are using the wrong address (should be http://www.gpugrid.net), Firewall settings, Antivirus settings, Proxy server, or perhaps your IP is blocklisted or your router is restricting access to some of the Internet.
Have you tried any cc_config settings to elucidate the problem?
Last edited by skgiven; 10-19-2011 at 10:08 AM.
The last install was boinc 6.12.34 x64. I am unsure what version I originally installed. Maybe one or two versions ago. Got if from the Berkeley site.
When you say "using the wrong address", what do you mean? Wrong url to initiate the account? It is embedded in boinc. Should I type it in manually instead of relying on the gui?
It is possible that the router is blocking communication. Some websites are blocked here. I can navigate to gpugrid.net though. Antivirus is set to only scan incoming files/minimal intrusion....but still a possible problem.
I have not created a cc_config on this particular machine. Had to do it to a different box that is running an ati card. Any suggestions on what to do with cc_config on this box?
I'll try running out current jobs and doing a clean install first.
Thanks.
Clean install = same 403 error.
Might not have been the issue then, and if you can't remember the original instal version it's a bit of a sticker anyway
Thought the opposite, you manually inputted the address. If you got it directly from Boinc Manager the address is correct.When you say "using the wrong address", what do you mean? Wrong url to initiate the account? It is embedded in boinc. Should I type it in manually instead of relying on the gui?
Yes, either could be preventing you getting a GPUGrid IDIt is possible that the router is blocking communication. Some websites are blocked here. I can navigate to gpugrid.net though. Antivirus is set to only scan incoming files/minimal intrusion....but still a possible problem.
Suggest you look here for how to create a cc_config.xml file and try adding the following,I have not created a cc_config on this particular machine. Had to do it to a different box that is running an ati card. Any suggestions on what to do with cc_config on this box?
<cc_config>
<options>
<zero_debts>1</zero_debts>
<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>
<http_transfer_timeout>900</http_transfer_timeout>
<http_1_0>1</http_1_0>
</options>
<log_flags>
<work_fetch_debug>1</work_fetch_debug>

Do you have local administrative rights?
You would also need to have write access to the Boinc folder on that hard drive,
"D:\Software\Another System Folder\Another Program Data\BOINC"
Last edited by skgiven; 10-19-2011 at 01:23 PM.
Yes, local administrator (using my domain user log in, I have local administrator rights. I also have a non-domain/local user account with administrator rights.) So, I do have write access. I'm the one that created the *alternate* directories.
I'll have to create the .xml tomorrow....too late now.
Thanks man.
Wow... ya'll have been busy...
Good luck, I'll keep checking back to see if I can help.
