    AIBs Custom HD5970 4GB(2x2GB)

Well, there has been previous news on them but nothing solid, until now.

    Tweakers.net translated:
Graphics Card Manufacturer XFX Sapphire axis and has just a special variant of the Asus HD 5970 are on stack. The video card gets a different cooler is standard and overclocking features six mini-DisplayPort output.

The HD 5970 Black Limited Edition, only arrived Wednesday at the Cebit, seems to be normal on a HD 5970, though the fan is in the middle and not the end. Further consideration also unload the gpu power through its two eight pin PCI-e connectors get. The card is equipped with 4GB memory, which may be clocked at 4800MHz has. The GPU clock speed of the state's fixed yet, but XFX-sales manager Marc Lücke Gold will run on the 850MHz Probably.

The cooler of the video card could not been achieved, but security products shown XFX model is still not the final version. Using virtual images could still cast a glance at the retail cooler leg. The expressions both gpu's heatsink mount cooled by blowing a leg, while the centrally located fin fan air through the necessary aluminum. How quiet the cooler would be and how would say hot gpu leg and could not XFX. Remarkable also are the six mini-display port outputs, which the twin versions Eyefinity graphics card is no longer distinguishes Sapphires and Asus' HD 5970-special. Moreover he would Outward verloopjes also been supplied to other connections possible.

The HD 5970 Black Limited Edition will cost around $ 1000. As the name suggests, only in a limited edition card and further, will he XFX according to some thousand five hundred copies been overcooked. The expectation is that the HD 5970 Black Edition Limited March sale is final.

looks like ATi made a reference design fro 4GB boards...(?)

Design of the cooler is just a coincidence? You can also notice ATi logo on the back-plate (why not a XFX logo, if the card is designed by XFX?) and typical ATi stickers.

I'm confident this board is designed by ATi. I believe it will be never released as official ATi product; only as product of AIB partners. Quite smart strategy - nobody can charge ATi with producing boards out of ATX/PCIe specs, but there will be a Radeon product able to spoil Fermi launch.

    I also like the idea of 2x 2GB + E6...
Only 1500 boards will be manufactured, launch during March, price $999(?). More pictures:

1500 for XFX model. Sapphire and Asus are going to launch their own 4GB models. 1000 pcs of Asus model should be available. No idea about Sapphire.

I thought ATI would never sell a card for more than $600.

You just don't crush your competition, you take your competition by the throat and squeeze the life out of it.

Well, that did it. Its now officially so long that it can be used a blunt weapon.

Seriously, how long are they gonna keep going? Personally I like Asus's idea of making the card a little wider instead of longer.

On one hand, these cards are getting so long that it is almost sad. On the other hand, theres a part of me that wants to see longer and longer cards, like a spectator at a circus.

Probably true for these custom 5970's; only a few hundred of each will be built. However, I think you're underestimating sales a bit. Making a HD5970 (and everything included) would likely cost well over US$1M. And to be honest, I don't particularly care if AMD starts selling >$600 graphics cards, so long as there is a good selection of lower-end cards.

What I meant was the 5970 is effectively unavailable for anyone besides magazines and hardware websites. I've been on a waiting list at NCIX for three months. Most online retailers don't even list the thing anymore.

While 2 Gb 5870 and 4 Gb 5970 sound brilliant on paper, looking at the costs and the blooming size of them makes me want to club whoever made them repeatedly over the head ... With the darn humongous graphics card.

Or I could buy one to replace my emergency intruder bat. But the chances are that if a thief saw that thing, they wouldnt leave untill they had it.

... Ok, will it fit in my Antec P182 :p. Want but cant afford .

By a few hundred you mean a few thousand?
There will be at least 3-4k built by the 3 aforementioned AIBs.

I'll believe when I see them in the stores. But I suspect mere mortals won't be able to get one, they'll be reserved for reviews and the speed records will be loudly proclaimed everywhere. I guess I'm just tired of reading about the fastest hardware no one can buy.

Anyway, I don't like the cooler, ASUS MARS should be much better. On the other hand, you really are supposed to waterocol these imo...

I have one maybe not so far fetched theory about that.
I can get one from my local retailer, (they have few in a warehouse).
And what ive seen they are available in europe.However.We are paying more for every hardware here. Its available for 900$ after VAT tax and conversion from PLN to dollar :-/.But dont get TOO shocked about price, everything is more expensive here.Maybe its the reason there seems to be a shortage in states. We have higher prices.
