Guys, can I put a peltier on a 5870 to try to get an exceptional core clock ? Or will it make bugger all difference ? Does any one know if the bolt holes around the gpu are similar to any older cards ? Might a regular water block fit ?

The problem with trying to cool GPU is that GPU specific waterblocks are designed for the size of the processors not a TEC. The TEC must be completely supported over it's full surface and waterblocks often have a raised area the the size of the processor which means they are not good for TEC usage. of course if your happy to make your own waterblock....
Given the difficulties and the dangers of condensation, you'd be much better off running a chilled liquid loop. Will take up more space, but will be a lot more doable.

What about the old Maze4-1 ? Its made for a TEC . Or a Boreas chiller on a closed gpu loop ?

VRM's are the problem on the 5000 series. Your GPU will have plenty of headroom, meanwhile the VRM's are toast at over 100c.
I'd hate to speculate how much wattage you'd be looking at cooling when considering the GPU, RAM, and VRMs.

What happens with the LN guys? Surely you dont get enough cold transfer through the card to cool these components too? Or do they?
If I chilled the water then I could use a full cover block, all problems solved.

Full cover with chilled coolant is undoubtably the best way to use TEC cooling with a GPU and yes I believe the LN2 pots do extend over the card beyond the processor it is relatively easy to do as the point of cooling is on the side of the pot not the end.Originally Posted by aussie-revhead
