A quick browse at IW forums shows it may have to do with inside trading or something similar.

    IW Forums Claims:
    -Jason West fired
-Another unnamed top dog to also be fired.....

Jeeze. You can't be serious. You know this cant be over the dedicated server thing. Call of duty MW2 sales have been fantastic.

The insider trading thing would make more sense because that would effect upper management no matter how powerful they are or how much money they made a company.

A crazy amount of people that pledged to that don't play campaign because of lack of dedicated servers still ended up buying the game. With over a billion dollars in sales, which makes this a well over 10 million plus seller, activision is more than happy with sales for a game released in November.

The insider trading thing makes much more sense than the server theory but it's not like this happened over night. This is probably a culmination of things built up over time and the trading thing is the icing on the cake. It's a possibility Activision forced IW to remove dedicated servers from the PC version of the game to protect their sales but I don't think it would end like this.

the non launch sales of MW2 are terrible (could be from the launch sales being high) and the pc sales were normal to low for the launch and vary low for the post launch of the last quarter, this quarter i wouldent expect any sales and nothing like cod4/5 were they had strong year long sales.

insider trading or some other inter company drama/legal problems make more sense though

im still mad about no servers but now im mad at EA for lies about securom in bc2 and including it when its 1 key per account that has to be logged in and it was cracked the same day as it was leaked so securom did them alot of good other than making the game $5-10 more and messing up computers

A billion in sales, means atleast 13 million copies have been sold. What game has done that in 4 months? I think the bottleneck is sales have slowed down because most people that are interested have it already.

The game was pirated to smithereens, 4.1 million downloads for the game.

Call of duty PC sales have always been abysmal compared to console sales.

    http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/50939

In the first 2 months, only 383,000 call of duty 4 MW were sold for PC. They were never going to be that strong.

http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/62334 Considering it is in the top 5 for games sold on steam, it not like it doing bad compared to the rest of pc game sold.

In addition in regard to top pc games sold, it did similarly well in 2009 as 2007 for MW1.

It's their own fault, they were the first publisher to start price gouging
international customers on steam. It's still $90 USD here in Australia on steam, yet I was able to buy an imported american PS3 copy for $30 USD when I was in Hong Kong. What kind of a business model is that? They must hardly get anything out of a $30 PS3 game after production costs and PS3 licensing, yet with their most profitable distribution system they price it out of the market outside of the USA.

insider trading scenario is very likely, whats also likely is that the studio didn't want to carry on doing MW games, its possible activision was pressuring them to start on MW3 whereas they wanted to do something different. Its all speculation atm, the reason they let themselves be bought by activision was to have freedom to make whatever games they wanted, and now it seems all activision wants them to do is MW3, MW4, MW5, etc...

having security at the building is a little overkill tho...

UPDATE: It appears that studio head Jason West has been let go from Infinity Ward. West's LinkedIn account now lists his position as "past," and shows that the position ended in March 2010. In addition, one of our own sources inside Infinity Ward has said that Activision is "flexing their muscles" against the studio, which is attempting to "push back against change." More as we hear it.
    from 1up's article

I don't think this is insider trading at all. Imo it looks like IW grew a spine. Though they've fallen out of favor for many people including me no matter how much they want to push Activision back now.

Woulda saved a lot of face for them if they decided to do this back in November. But dollar signs can be a pretty crazy thing. Now some head honchos are out of a job and all I care about is being able to play bc2 online in about 7 hours. Glad I was able to not give in and buy mw2.

Interested but still not buying MW2. Online play is all that really matters and without dedicated servers it's a waste of time.

Played it a few times on a friends copy...but no way paying £34.99 for that shambles!

    COD4 ProMod ftw.

tbh there is no way to prove that number. it might have been alot higher but it might also have been lower.

They can go to the popular torrent sites and count the amount of torrents downloaded but downloading the torrent doesnt mean that you also downloaded the entire game attached to that torrent.
Further alot of people have switched to news servers and i doubt anyone has access to the amount of downloads there.

But OT. I see alot of people protecting IW and so on when we dont even know why those 2 got fired.
Maybe those 2 did something illegal and them being fired was the right thing todo for Activision or it might have been a power grab in wich case it was wrong.

Lets wait and see why they got fired . Who knows those 2 might have done some dirty things.

I preffered the story in MW2 SP but BC2 SP had a few great moments in its SP wich really showed the possibilitys of MP.

Yeah, Activision actually meant to say "We're looking for brainless idiots who will do what we tell them to do."

IW should've moved to a different publisher for MW2. But instead they gave the big finger to PC gamers and stuck with Activision. Now they got screwed in the ass

Insider trading doesn't make sense? What inside info would they have that would lend them to making $ by trading stock of Activision or their holding companies? The release date of MW2 was public information a long time before the game was released. Maybe they learned about the "no severs" issue first and dumped their ATVI and VIV stocks

It's also been said that IW never received any of the royalties from them from the MW2 sales. I don't know how true that is though...
