No problem. I know nothing about the client stuff, but I saw people interested in those products.
its a disappointing launch, the amount of changes from 790gx is neglectable except for the SB changes.
At least AMD could have used an updated integrated graphics and some new CFX features.
Unless there are off course some features that have to be enabled with the launch of thuban dedicated to 8xx series....
It has 4xxx series graphics, the current 7 series chipsets have 3xxx series.
I would appreciate some info about SurroundView...is it gone when there is Eyefinity or what?
No, there aren't many changes but there really doesn't need to be IMO. Truth be told, the 790-series and 785G families of motherboards are still extremely competitive in their markets.
The addition of native SATA 6Gb/s is actually a great move considering the number of devices that will soon have support for it. It is also something that can't be natively supported by current Intel products. I would have liked to have seen USB 3.0 to speed up its adoption rate but that's a minor gripe.
Otherwise, what's to complain about? We're seeing some forward movement without substantial price hikes which is a welcome change IMO.
JF-AMD FAIL. Yep, I told everyone I don't know client
I was using 780's and those have 32xx video. You are correct.
Dunno if it's posted elsewhere, but anand did a run.

wasnt there a change to p states? i thought that will be very important soon.
The 850 are on 40nm correct?

The table is weird. If it's still RV6x0, than all versions (even 740G, 780G) support DirectX 10.1, you cannot simply disable 10.1 an run 10 only. And what about HybridCrossfire? Wasn't 7x0G first which implemented HybridCrossfire? I am 100% sure it does it since I've been told some bull like SurroundView is for HybridCrossfire only on AMD's Tech Support. Yet it works with HD 3870, with most drivers (I asked for why it does not work with version 9.11).
Oh man I totally forgot HD 2000 had DX10 only...do I have sclerosis or what? I am too young for that
But the Hybrid CrossFire thing is definitely mistake...
Is it supports HD audio bitstream through HDMI? I didn't find it in reviews.
"At least AMD has squeezed a Gigabit Ethernet controller into the SB850 alongside the usual HD audio interface and, surprisingly, an old-school ATA channel. The whole thing is fabricated by TSMC at 65 nm, resulting in a chip that measures about 50 x 70 mm. According to AMD, the SB850 draws just 0.85W at idle, which is a quarter-watt less than the old SB750."
So SB850 is a 65nm chip while 890GX is a 55nm one.

Is it true the SB850 doesn't have ACC and core unlocking support anymore? If so, this is terrible news for AMD overclocking (the reason I buy AMD).
ACC was a bug corection of old chipsets. Maybe SB850 fixed that. Now just wait for test.
I think the biggest thing is native in-house integrated Gigabit Ethernet, HD audio, and SATA 6 Gbps. Now AMD doesn't have to rely on 3rd party vendors like Realtek and Marvell. Maybe next generation they will shrink it down to 28 nm and put everything onto one chip.
