    Steam Coming to OS X?

    http://www.macrumors.com/2010/02/26/...ng-to-the-mac/

Seems something might finally be happening to with Valve and Apple....

Let's hope it comes out good and developers jump on this.

It would save me from using BootCamp.

Add how much for 2GB of RAM?

If Macs are too expensive for your taste then don't buy one. it doesn't stop the other many millions of people that own Macs currently. I own two and would buy a third in a heartbeat if I needed another. Sad to see that the price always comes out about Macs.

sweet lol i should buy a athlon computer and put it in a nice case and say its "reliable" and charge 1000$ for it..

i just see spending my money on somthing thats accually worth the money being a better idea.. apple uses too much pretty things to try to get people to like them.. look at the ipod. zune was better in everyway but the pod was "cool" and trendy..

applemac people will always be stupid.. i can understand using them for what they are good for but performance/dollar ratio is a joke... a major joke..

i mean look at the ipad.. perfect example of apple doing somthing.. make a piece of crap put it in a pretty case and talk about it like its the bee's knee's.. and a billion stupid people will buy it..

lol that was a random apple hate moment hah

easy boys, no fighting necessary here. to each his own.

i own both, and like both, but would prefer to see mac in a mobile platform and pc in a desktop/performance platform.

thats a personal thought. no fighting please

The only problem is that the GAMES use DirectX and are not compatible with Mac. Even if Steam were to run on OSX, you would still only be able to play games that use OpenGL.
    Rig 1:
    ASUS P8Z77-V
    Intel i5 3570K @ 4.75GHz
    16GB of Team Xtreme DDR-2666 RAM (11-13-13-35-2T)
    Nvidia GTX 670 4GB SLI

    Rig 2:
    Asus Sabertooth 990FX
    AMD FX-8350 @ 5.6GHz
    16GB of Mushkin DDR-1866 RAM (8-9-8-26-1T)
AMD 6950 with 6970 bios flash

Yamakasi Catleap 2B overclocked to 120Hz refresh rate

Sadly that happens all the time.

Buy a MurderBox, Alienware, Falcon Northwest and any of those prize high end pcs and you pay for looks, not function.

I own a MurderMod PC I built myself, and even built the chassis myself with the guidence of Nils aka DualBrain.

I Love pc's, but sadly I don't game anymore, I'm intested in Starcraft 2, and that'll most certainly come to MAC aswell as it always has.

I'm just tired of lobbing around a massive system and having to spend a while plugging it all in.

So I'll be keeping an eye out for the new iMacs. Simply because I can get everything done I can now, except for the games and MS software testing. But it's not like I'll be throwing my pc in the bin. Mac for Work, PC for pleasure. Simple.

Considering the amount I spent on my MurderMod pc, it's actually more than the 27" iMac and I only have a 24" TN panel with the pc.

So I don't understand why all this hate, let people buy what they want. Hell I don't even like iTunes, simply because of how bad it is compared to Winamp on the PC. But that's hardly going to affects my statuts of buying a Mac, let alone ever buy an iPod or MP3 player.

i hope that this is wrong there is nothing but casual games that current macs (except the pro) can play, and i like not having mac people on the steam community. they have ichat we have steam it should stay like that atleast until apple makes an OS/computer that can officially game since now u have to crack the os boot loader by spoofing efi or buy a $3000 mac pro and buy a new gpu on top of that then its still slow

I am just not going to post anything Mac related over here anymore. Everytime I do all I get is retarded people coming in the "Mac" section complaining about the cost. Like I said if it is too expensive for you don't buy it, don't look at it, and complain about it else where.

I could have sworn i told you guys not to fight earlier... and yet here we are... mac vs. pc is a matter of opinion, and whichever side your on, you can express your own opinion.. but you cant change someone elses... if you have nothing positive to say about it, either dont say it at all, or say it in a pm.

I would like to see steam on the apple mac, and I could see it being incredibly popular, especially if iPhone games could be downloaded through and then played on both iPhone and big screen apple mac.

yes i have, they can barely do wow, steam is like psn or xbl its to communicate and buy things for that platform. i can see why people would want it on osx but it dosnt fit with the stem community that is mostly fps players.

one of the greatest things abot steam is that u can invite people from any group to play l4d or css or a few others and almost every1 has it. but if they port it to mac and apple open osx or has good gpus in their non pro multi cpu computers i could see it as being good

The HW was never the problem but the OS/driver support.

I think steam is coming to mac be course of all the small casual games.

I think you overestimate what is necessary to play video games. I've been using an 8600GTS(lol..) to game at 1920x1200 and I've been playing the Command and Conquer 4 beta for weeks with medium to low quality settings. I really don't miss playing at 1920x1200 with maxed out eye candy as my little 8600GTS is damn near silent versus the noisy HD4890 I was using prior. Now they just need an easy way to port games from DX9/10/11 to OpenGL.

i was thinking more like when in wow a couple of years back we had to ban people with macs except the pros from raiding since they would lag out and even though i dont play anymore i still have some friends that do and they lag on new maxbooks and imacs. i can see playing an rts with low settings and on slower hardware but i was thinking more FPS since thats what valve dose and if u cant play wow how would u do a shooter

Ugp, don't let the haters get u down. I used to be a hater too. Then I actually used a Mac. I would put money down that most haters here are teenagers that have never actually used one. Anyway, steam coming to osx sounds cool but I really doubt it'll have any good fps's. The casual gamer crowd rules and Mac users have very few hardcore gamers, therefore game development on osx steam will be a glorified app store for the casual gamer. Give me CSS on a Mac and I'd be set
