It can serve as a great 3D-render station, for sure. But put a couple of server-grade NIC into this MB, then the 12c/24t @4.6GHz can serve as a great enterprise server for many middle-size companies.
It has redundant CPU which is really impotent for reliability. Add a redundant RAID storage system, and a redundant power supply to it (both comes relatively cheap), and you will get pretty close to a mission critical server, with much more reliability than a single CPU system.

This is why I hope this board is a full success. -that someone might to decide to make another board capable of running multiple cheap CPU's and OC'ing them.

In comparison, I bet this SR-2 board alone will cost more than my first entire BP-6 computer!

Yes, the performance side will always be steady increasing so it doesn't matter when to buy... But the feature set isn't.

The sole reason I'm specifically waiting for that gen are the AVX and FMA instruction sets. Those will make a HUGE difference on the programming side.

You don't get radical improvements like that in every generation.
(Of course nobody else will care since none of the major benchmarks use new features anyway...)

    EDIT:

If I can use AVX and FMA well enough, then I'll show you more than 2x improvement between adjacent generations...
(That's assuming Intel and AMD implement "true" 256-bit vector units... which I kinda doubt they will on the first gen with the feature set...)

EDIT 2: I'm being a little too optimistic, but you get the idea.

Does that mean that if I tossed a couple pots on this board and ran it up to say 6500mhz that Intel security would come and kill me?

Well how long till they can get to hating?

We're all anxiously waiting for this thing to turn on... Even if we can't know the numbers yet.
(unless we secretly start tracking BOINC stats...)

Im expecting the mighty 32core opterons to fall shortly Since your 24 threaded monster is missing/seems awfully quiet. The only question that remains is...will you double the best daily or will the humiliation be even greater?

Those water cooled GPUs looks really good, but you can have 3 more of those on this MB .
Xfire can't scale effective with that many cards of course, but 7 single slot cards can make a great GPGPU setup on this MB.

And that would really be unfair to the guys there that work so hard for what they get.
I will submit scores but more to show what this can do than for the "glory" part.
Now there isd one bench that I want to really show where this beast will shine:
Cinebench 11.5.. I know what these chips can do at default 3458 on that benchmark.. At overclocked speeds you will dampen your undies when you see the numbers..

They no longer have any more info on their website about this it looks like they took it down.

Is WATX a completely new form factor then? Will XL-ATX certified cases like the lian li armor suit not fit this motherboard?
