    Exclamation i7 920 is constantly running at 2.79GHz

    Guys my i7 920 is constantly running at 2.79GHz from 5th day of purchase even if no process is running and CPU utilization is 1%
    is this some thing to do with windows or what

    I think his question is more along the lines of why his CPU is constantly running at turbo speeds, even at very low CPU utilisation.

    @ OP, it's probably because you've got Speedstep disabled in BIOS, meaning your CPU is running at max speed constantly.

    It's most likely a combo of having speedstep disabled in your bios and your windows settings. If you look up power options, and choose balanced and look under advanced settings you should be able to find something like "minimum processor state" make sure that's set to something that isn't 100% then your comp will spin down.
    I do this stuff for a living... it sorta takes the fun out of it.
