the unlocking isnt all that great anymore as the unlocked quads are 165 and the unlocked dual and tri are 115 or so

Good point, but the AMD section of XS (Daveburt notably) seems to get a hold of a few megahertz by tweaking ACC.
I'm hoping for a better overclock, if they intend to leave ACC out of this. Two weeks to reviews.

I want to see the 890FX version, and I know it won't disappoint, Gigabyte has been making great boards lately. Though they need to change colour schemes like ASUS and go for darker colours, because all the boards look almost the same.

ASUS's 890GX has a switch for unlocking, and it works like charm on Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition

This chipset is still 2x16x, 8x/8x crossfire, they are crippling there own video cards.
Well, at this point I'm burdened to ask a question. Isn't 8x sufficient? And if not, under what conditions does it become insufficient?

A 5870 is held back at 8X, so is a 5970.
The reason I asked, is because everything and everyone I've seen talking about the subject has never been able to show evidence that the reduced lanes impact performance. I'd love to see numbers to verify this either way.

I remember that some review site, a few years back, did bandwidth tests old G80's and PCI-E 1. The result THEN, if memory serves, was that cutting back to PCI-E x4 had a noticeable performance loss (like 20-30%), x1 was basically unusable. x8 and x16 were both at full speed. Bringing that forward to today, I'd imagine that HD5870 loses 5% at PCI-E 2 x8 and HD5970 would lose 20-30%.
With a few cards and some tape, it's actually fairly easy to force the card into having fewer lanes. What might be interested to do is to test all scenarios with an X58 board (x16-x16 without nForce 100/200) and a few different pairs of cards; HD5970's, HD5870's, HD5850's, HD5770's, GTX295's, GTX285's, GTX275's, and GTX260's.

there isnt much holdback by different x1-x4 etc...
all the numbers I seen are forgetable.

a lot of people decide on the gx boards instead of the fx boards based on the fact that they dont need 16x/16x so they can save a few bucks more w/ gx board and still get most the same features

890FX is 16x/16x or 16x/8x/8x
8x vs 16x w/ 5970 is 10% diff.
If it is Newegg Europe, why are the prices in dollars?
