Depends on if you're going to use the new features or not. Probably no point.

    Wrong.
790FX came nine months before GX, on the same day the first Phenom 65 nm (translation lookaside buffer flaw enabled stepping B2) was released back in 2007.
It's even made in 65 nm, while GX is 55 nm.
    The 790FX, 790X and 770 chipsets were launched on November 19, 2007

The 780G chipset was released worldwide on March 5, 2008 during CeBIT 2008 [8],

The 790GX chipset was released on August 6, 2008.

The 785G was announced on August 4, 2009.

    I hear ya.
Great to see the SB getting updated, but the NB seems more like a dumb shrink than a must have.

And I guess these boards won't even be AM3r2, meaning they don't really have any benefit over the current AM3 boards when BD launches,
EXCEPT for the annoying fact that 800 boards will be blessed with more and better BIOS updates for Bulldozer from the BIOS making gods..

DUAL x2 support? As in running two dual GPU cards on a GX (2x8)?

ok i guess im refering to the 785g and 790x boards, and then the 790FX's were released, correct?
is that what they are doing now too.but i still want to know why.is there a reason other than
the 890fx isnt ready.if its not ready than why is the made after 885G,if there is an 885g.
does it have to do with the SB?

If you read my quote you'll see that 790FX, 790X and 770 came first, and all the others later on.

was there an 780g board?maybe thats what im thinkng of.i seem to remember when they released the the updated
SB-750(i think) and everyone was excited for it and the 785g came with it and then the 790fx after.maybe im confused
also i think i dont understand,is the 785 different than the 790?right.they both use the 750SB?

im pretty sure im thinking of the SB750 refresh.because i remember everyone using the 790GX boards with the 750SB(ACC)
and always posting that they cant wait for the 790FX boards for some extreme OCing.sorry about the confusion.

I love those Biostar boards! They look great and will be definitely very good priced. Biostar rules mainboard world for me.

Yeah the 780G was released after the FX, the 785 is just an update, while the 790GX is a bit better with its 2x8 slots.
The newer southbridges have caused more attention than the northbridges, You needed SB750 to unlock cores/cache, but it was only used on more expensive boards.
Then came the cheaper SB710 together with 785G that could do the same.

yep,i guess thats what i was thinking of.motheboard makers and the release of the 790GX w/750SB
and then the release of the 790FX w/750SB.not literally the 790FX chipset release but the MB refresh
with the new SB.they did this with the SB600 and SB700 too(motherboard makers)right

Original SB600 had slow USB, that's the reason lower end boards equiped with SB700 had much better sales. The 790FX was not worth the money wuth buggy southbridge. Most poeple bought 780G but used dedicated graphics anyway.

I don't think 890FX has an integrated GPU, but the 890GX does.

Anyways, will this thing support SLI?

    Oh, my bad

I believe that they will support USB3.0, SATA 6GB/s, and possibly Thuban.

I HOPE that it gives out better graphics performance, though.

but the speed burst rate and seek time we see the SB850 native performance advantages over Marvell 88E9123 chip.... Find Road time to improve by 7%, and the burst rate increased by 20%. Thus, we can foresee in the near future, SATA 6Gbps specification of solid-state drives in native SATA 6Gbps of the motherboard on the shine.
    hmm interesting...

im still trying to find out why AMD or MB makers do this
AMD will officially launch its 890GX chipset in early March
AMD will launch 890FX and 880G chipsets in late April
why the 890gx gets released before the 890fx,other than one being ready
before the other,if this is the case.i dont get why.they both have the new
SB850 and the gx has integrated graphics,so wouldnt it be easier to launch
the 790fx first.or is there something more complicated in making the 790fx?
very sorry if im annoying people but im just trying understand why they
make the enthusiast wait a month.because i know enthusiast will buy the gx
to hold them over till the fx comes out.is this the reason maybe?if they release
the fx first at the same time, sales of the gx will drop?

the gx will be more of a bang for buck board. the fx is the most decked out board. a lot of the fx boards will probably have more than two 16x pci-e slots. they will have more features. they will be decked out. if you talk to custom pc manufacturers they will tell you that they have a decent amount of high end motherboards go bad before they even send out the pc to the person that ordered it. Why? because the more features you add to a motherboard the more things that can go wrong with it. so knowing this its easy to know that they probably want to make sure everything is ready before they let the motherboard companies manufacture and sell them.
