    Nikon D80

A friend of mine got a D60, D80 and a D300 from a "estate of a deceased person". He keeps the D300 for his work as a photographer and has sold the D60 and offered me the NIKON D80 with a 18-55mm f/3.5-4.5 NIKKOR VR for $730. It has no warranty but is in mint condition and has not taken many pictures.

I never owned a camera in this league before and I am very n00bish. But always wanted to take some semi-prof pictures (especially close up pictures).

    Good deal/bad deal?

It's not a terrible deal but you can definitely find a better deal. You would expect to pay about that for a used D90 and that lens. The reason I say it isn't a terrible deal is because the D80 is only 1 generation old and Nikon bodies don't really depreciate until they are 2 generations old. That being said, I personally wouldn't consider paying more than $600 for that combo. As long as we're talking USD. Just noticed your tag says Denmark.

    yeah that's WAY too much.
i can get you a brand new in the box unused D90 body for $725.

$600 would be the max i would pay.
If a guy who passed away owned those cameras, there is a very high chance that they are very very used. ie; very high shutter count.
i would ask to borrow it for a weekend and then offer him $600. - only if its worth it.

Well he says it has very low shutter count.

"i can get you a brand new in the box unused D90 body for $725." that sound amazing for a brand new one, are the US prices that low? And that would be without a lens then. Keep in mind the D80 is with a lens included.

Seems like a bit steep IMO...Have a look at dba.dk - there are several D80 for sale there starting at 2800 DKK. The D80 is a great camera to get into serious photography BTW.

Compared to the prices you can find used here, that sounds like a ripoff
