    The 5850 Club.

    Greetings!

This is the XS 5850 Club. We can post here to gather experiences. I've just purchased three 5850s from Newegg, I will be posting benches soon. =)

Anyone who has a 5850, please post here, so we can mutually solve problems, find out when the next deal is, and try and show those 5870 owners who got the bargain.

I had a 5870 first, it was good for 900/1300 on stock volts. I have a 5850 that does 900/1300 with 5870 bios and volts, for 1920x1200 gaming with 2-4xAA in everything i play i dont miss the 5870 whatsoever. 5850 runs cooler also and is smaller. Plus for the $100+ price difference, not worth it IMHO. If i was gaming at 2560x1600 I would probably need more power and even a single 5870 wouldnt cut it for me anyway.

So, you sold your 5870, to purchase a 5850?

I got lucky with my Sapphire 5850. Got it on a superdeal in Singapore, and it does 900/1330 on 5850 stock(1.087)volts with the Asus 5850 bios. It does 1GHz furmark stable on 1.2 volts... Runs very cool and no need for more than 45% fan to keep it under 65C. Very happy indeed.

Gonna have a go at the latest RBE tonight and get the clocks right.

MSI 5850 OC user here. Flashed the BIOS to use default voltage and do 800/1150 all the time. Does fine with everything maxed in games at both resolutions I game at (1920x1200 & 4800x1200) despite my 2.2GHz CPU clock speed. Love it, with a few exceptions that can be solved via drivers.
Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

    Rule 3:
When it comes to computer news, 70% of Internet rumors are outright fabricated, 20% are inaccurate enough to simply be discarded, and about 10% are based in reality. Grains of salt--become familiar with them.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

    Random Tip o' the Whatever
You just can't win. If your product offers feature A instead of B, people will moan how A is stupid and it didn't offer B. If your product offers B instead of A, they'll likewise complain and rant about how anyone's retarded cousin could figure out A is what the market wants.
